    Default Fuel Door DIY

Could someone who has one of the custom seats tell me the overall diameter of the fuel door as well as the diameter of the opening. I am thinking of adding one to my stock seat as a DIY project.
You can buy doors at some parts stores or online, but I'm not sure what size it needs to be.

    Thanks

Hi 2Paw, did you ever figure out your fuel door project? I am in the process of buying my first Spyder but not happy about the fuel filler under the seat. I like to camp and have always carried a duffle strapped to the back of my 2 wheelers. If I do that here I have to unstrap to get gas.

I'm surprised that some vendor hasn't put together a kit with instructions and parts, to do this . . . I'd buy it.

I think it is quite easy to open seat to fuel up. I would think something on the side of the seat would bother me when driving.

Can you post a photo of the door? I'm thinking of doing the same.

Hi Mike here ....Bob Denman posted a PIC of His the other day on Thread after He returned from SPYDERFEST.........black on His Cognac RT.......It's not difficult to do.......A red hot nail to make your holes is the most important and then something to melt the seat material on the edge of the mounting ring. a Hole cutter for the big hole and drill or dremel with a very rough stone will take down the seat base very quickly.......Mike .....They sell the BiLLEt doors on E-bay $ 29.95 " Apex " makes a good one...............or E-Bay # 161801757548,,,, it's the same from a different seller

Bob, did you do yours yourself, or did you have it done by someone else? And, what materials and technique were used to install it?

Mike put mine in for me. (I'm too much of a chicken, to cut on an expensive seat! )

    Default MISSING - .......SCREW

Because of the seat PAN shape.......That hole required a 2 inch long machine screw and we just didn't have one......But I assured Him it wouldn't fall off........................Mike

I'm picking up the proper bolt for the job this week.
And I'll also try rotating the door counter-clockwise... even though it means drilling a hole!

Mike I think by now you must have done a few of these. It appears to me from the picture of Bob's bike that you have his mounted so the door opens up and to the left Does it open far enought to be out of the way? Would access be easier if it were rotated 180*? Does the door fold out of the way enough that it doesn't matter?

Actually; I am going to rotate it so that it opens along a more horizontal plane.
Sometimes the gas nozzles get caught up on the hinge.
I think that if I move it by just one screw's location; it'll be perfect!

The problem was.....when I mounted it ...the seat was up and this caused me to mis-calculate where it would end up.......Bob said leave it, He would adjust it later if needed..........................And nothing actually blocks the PUMP NOZZEL ....it's the RUBBER RING that is a slight issue, but not much IMHO..............................PS, the HOLES on the outside RING are all spaced apart the same distance.....so you can rotate the ring and get the HINGE where you want within those perimeters.......Ive had a bunch a PM's since doing this........Toooooooooo much typing ............Mike
