    Default Engine noise

I have a (new) 2011 RT SE5 with 1,100 miles. I'm hearing a noise that I can only describe as a hampster wheel or the noise the ball in a can of spray paint makes when you swirl the can (not the shaking noise). It seems to be coming from someplace near the left footpeg. Its fairly random on timing but seems more prevalent in lower gears between 3000 and 4000 rpm. Any suggestions on what Im hearing. The noise itself isnt a concern, just whether it is an indication of a problem that should be addressed. The bike rides fine with the exception of really low gas mielage (22.5 mpg). I get no dash warning lights and both the engine and transmission seem otherwise to run great. Thoughts?

    Default Engine noise

No clue, but that doesn't sound normal. The motor does make a more rattling noise and vibrates more under 4k rpms, but I don't recall any noises like what your describing. I try to keep the revs at 4k+.
Probably be a good dealer trip to make sure.

I have a 2011 RSS SE5 and mine makes the same metallic clicking sound at lowers speeds coming from somewhere under the left panel. Doesn't seem to affect the running but Ive not been able to track it down either. It's almost like a switch kicking on and off quickly. Things that make you go Hmmmmm....

Might want to read through these dos & don'ts before you get too far down the road; if you haven't already done so

You can't track it to a specific set of harmonics that sets up a consistent vibration?
It that's the case; I'd also take a peek at the front sprocket...
Good Luck, and please let us know what you find!

I'd recommend that you ask your dealer to explain or address it.

Good point; the warranty is still in play!
I was just thinking that the more that we can learn about the bikes; the merrier!

    Default Diagnosis

Y'all got me nervous so I took the bike to the dealer today. It wasnt the engine, it wasnt the front sprocket, it wasnt the transmission and it wasnt my noob driving. The innerds of the Glorider on the left wheel came loose and was spinning around inside the cap.

Glad to hear it was not the that was making the noise. I am guessing you are not going to have any problem getting your glorider back in operation. I believe parts are available.

ok ... who was the bright guy who mounted the camera inside his engine?

looks just like I've always imagined my RT to look inside!

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice ... in practice, however, that's just a theory.

That noise was the mod done to it, now you ruined it. Good thing you found the culprit.

My 2008 SM5 now has 29,xxx miles I'm 2000 miles into my last oil change. ( I used Amsoil 10-40). I just started experiencing the dry start engine noise. if I use a 5-30 oil on my next oil change will I still experience the dry start noise?

Likely you will, and I'm not aware of any Jaso ma2 5-30 oils for wet clutch.
    I know of multiple 5-40 and a few 10-30 jaso ma2 oils.

Also, that's not really going to fix your problem......
