When removing panels and especially mirrors in cold weather, open your garage door and let your bike run for 10 - 15 minutes. The warmth from the engine will radiate throughout the bike and panels, as well as travel up to where the mirror clips are at. I also use a heat gun to warm things up for replacement if the garage is too cool to be safe.

When attaching panels back into the rubber grommets, don't use WD40. That will eventually dry out your grommets. Instead, use tire lube or more basically a mix of dish soap and water. I have some in a spray bottle. Just spray the nipple and the grommet and they'll pop right in. After the water dries, you'll be left with a small amount of residue that will also help when popping them back off at a later date.
