While I wouldn't have thought that the fuel cap was the main culprit; I suppose that a bad gasket could have caused some grief along the way...
-
Every time I fill up my Spyder, opening the cap is not a problem, but when closing it, it feels kinda loose, even though it goes thru a few clicks. But I don't see the fuel odor on the outside (yet).

If anyone has concerns about the integrity of your gas cap, get a Can Am Commander gas cap. It has a more robust ratcheting system and seal.
It doesn't cost alot and is peace of mind.

What a long strange journey its been.

There was recall a couple of years ago to reroute the vent hose from the evaporator canister (I think). It may be that this part of the Canadian recall was already handled in the US, or it could be something completely different. It may also be that the EPA requirements in the USA have caused BRP to address these issues prior to release in the US.
Just thinking, but I did give my dealer's Service Manager a heads-up, just in case it does come to the US too.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Do you know or can confirm this is the one you quote and it will fit a Can-Am Spyder RT 2010 Model

The BRP engineers at Spyderfest suggested this to me. My cap - leaked - actually gushed fuel - after a stop on my way to Spyderfest.

The only problem i found on my 08's gas cap was if ' I ratcheted it too much, I would have to fight to
get it off. Not a good thing when i had to get gas.

Is the recall for canadian/european models? Because in P.R. we got the european models, no idea why. And our dealer do not notified us about anything. Thanks

"Get" gas?? It's far better to give, than to receive!

I posted this on another thread.....
I received my email today. Its NHTSA Campaign ID number: 12V582000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; STORAGE; TANK ASSEMBLY; FILLER PIPE AND CAP
BRP is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Can-Am spyder GS, RS AND RT series vehicles. The fuel cap may not fit onto the fuel tank filler neck, preventing it from sealing properly.
etc. etc. etc.
Remedy: BRP will notify owners and send them a replacement fuel cap, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin in mid-January 2013.
etc. etc. etc.
I sent an email of this to my local dealer. I was there just this morning picking up and hitch and they didn't know a thing about this. They do now!!

Kind of glad this came out, some of the stories we have all heard were in the back of my mind. Glad to see this resolved although it took a while.

Just out of curiosity I wonder if this is related in any way to the explosion that took place at the BRP plant/research and development. I haven't heard anymore about that incident.
