Default RT rear turn signal bulbs

I need to replace one of the rear turn signal bulbs. I bought an 1156, but the 2 pins that lock it in place are different. The 1156 pins are 180 degrees apart, the stock bulbs are less than 180 degrees.

The 1156 has a base designated as BA15S which includes pins that are 180 degrees apart. You need a bulb with a base designation of BAU15S which includes pins that are offset not opposite each other. Both bulbs have an S8 shape so they look similar but the pins are not.

I've got to crawl back into the coffee cup for a second dip before I can even begin to figure any of that explanation out...

Oh! I sure don't mean to make anybody think that what you were saying wasn't right; I'm just not very good at technical stuff and have to get my paws on things before the parts of the puzzle start making sense...

The cost and shipment time from BRP was too long, so I just got a regular 1156 build and used a Dremel to grind down one side, works great.

    Default RT turn signal bulbs

Thanks for the information on the bulbs. This is a new one on me and I'm ready for it when mine burn out on my 2010 RT.

I got correct spare back-up and turn signal bulbs on e-bay. The turn-signal bulb (with offset pins) for $6.50 from AutoLampsPlus. The back-up bulb (180-degree pins) from bigrodj for $5.44.

Note that the 1156 is rated at 26.9W, 2.1 amps. The bulbs I purchased are 21 watts, 1.7 amps. The owner's manual specifies 20W for both bulbs. Normally I'd say brighter is better. Just be aware that you're drawing over 25% more amps than specified. Probably no big deal at these small amperages.

If you are interested in replacing the incandescents with LEDs you might try these:

I have them in my RT and they work great.

Good find. The on-line NAPA specs don't show the watts or amps or if the bulb is tinted but the base shows the 150-degree offset pins and the bulb shape as S8. Hopefully your packaging shows the watts. Next time I need one, I'll give NAPA a try. Thanks.

Thanks Carl! Did you have to order anything else to make sure that the flashing rates stayed normal?
