Dead Spyder....what gives?
Backed the 2011 RT SE5 out of the driveway. Put it in first and she stalled. Put my foot on the brake hit the starter and....nothing. Pressed harder on the brake tried again....nothing. Shut it off took out the key waited, tried again....nothing. Dash is all lit, music playing but not a sound from the engine or starter. No codes, everything looks a-ok but it will not even crank. Put the trickle charger on, checked the connections waited for the green light on the charger to indicate full charge....again nothing. Any ideas from my compatriates out in forum land?

YES!!!! I don't know how I did it but must have inadvertantly hit it without even knowing. I guess there's a first time for everything.
Too bad I didn't look, I just never use it so last thing I thought about looking for.
All is well again

As an old racer, I recommend using the kill switch every time you turn the Spyder off. Not only will it make your response automatic in case of engine noise, a runaway, a fuel leak, or some other disaster, but it has the added advantage of making it the first place you look whn something like this happens.

The manual states to use the "stop switch" when turning off both the RM5 and SE5 models.
SM5 Model
1. Shift into first gear.
2. Set the engine stop switch to OFF.
3. Engage the parking brake. The brake indicator lamp will flash.
4. Turn the key to OFF.
5. Before dismounting, check that the parking brake is fully engaged. Hold the clutch and rock the vehicle back and forth.
Always engage the parking brake. The vehicle can roll if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission s in neutral.
SE5 Model
1. Shift into neutral.
2. Set the engine stop switch to OFF.
3. Engage the parking brake. The brake indicator lamp will flash.
4. Turn the key to OFF.
NOTE: If the parking brake is not engaged while the key is OFF, the parking brake indicator lamp will flash and a beeper will sound.
5. Before dismounting, check that the parking brake is fully engaged. Rock the vehicle back and forth.
My HD Ultra's manual also states the same...
It is simply a good idea to do, as you stated.
Oh yeah... by the way... I have NEVER EVER done what the OP did... nope... never... LOL!

When I purchased my first RT the salesman said don't use the kill switch to shut down. I never have. I cannot tell a lie though. I've never had the problem of the kill switch being off.

Not only do motorcycle manuals tell you to use the kill switch, but most MSF courses teach the same thing. I am not alone in urging this, by any means.

My Harley motorcycle mechanic buddy tells me he can't count how many kill switches he's replaced that left the rider walking. From his perspective, it's another possible point of failure that can be avoided simply by not using it. No cars or trucks I know of have a kill switch on the steering wheel, yet I've never heard anyone suggest it's a needed safety feature. I believe the keyed ignition switch is sufficient for both cars and bikes.
Just my opinion...

I used to never use it any of my other bikes, once it got me too I decided to just always use it. Turn it off after each ride then back on before starting. It not only acts as a reminder but potentially a theft deterrent if they can't figure it out lol

The kill switch is due to the design of some bikes (HDs and Triumphs) having their ignition key on the side of the triple tree, where you can't quickly reach it in case you need to shut off the engine in an emergency. It just carried over to all bikes over the years.

It didn't just "carry over", it is mandated by Federal law.
