Mapping Application
Does anybody know of an application (free would be nice) that will allow you to generate a ride map by typing in intersections? I've got a book of Ohio rides and I'd like to be able to generate something like a triptic from the description of the ride in the book. I have Street Atlas USA but if it can be done with it I haven't found the right combination of clicks and head patting tummy rubbing to do it.
Thanks and stay safe,
Curt

I generally use google maps. You can save your maps too, though sometimes saved maps don't exactly match what you originally put in.

If you have an iphone, i've used an app called "greatest road". You can input rides to the system and other users with the app can see them. You can also see rides that other people have posted along with comments about the area so if you're in an unfamiliar area you can take a ride someone has posted before. Its kind of neat.

I use mapquest and also mad maps, you have to buy the ones you want for the area you ride - www.madmaps.com also motorcycle roads has nice rides.

You can go to triple A and use their on-line interactive planner, and generate your own tripticks as a PDF. http://ww2.aaa.com/scripts/WebObjects.dll/AAAOnline.woa/415?zip=43085&association=aaa&club=130&page=ITTSer vices&sessionRedirect=1352738416412
A related question.. does anyone know if there is software or online service that will let you plan maps like this and download navigation to your iPhone or Android device?

The greatest road app will do that, you can plan a ride then use "start ride" to get a google map to the start. Then, you follow the map.

Apologies if this has been posted before.
If you have a limited RT with the Zumo 660 (or if you have a Zumo at all) there is a free download from the Garmin site called Basecamp.
Once Basecamp is loaded on your computer you can custom build a route with all the turns and roads you want to travel. It isn't quite as user friendly as Google maps but it isn't bad.
Once you get the route you want just load it onto the Zumo and disconnect from your computer.
To access the route go to 'Custom Routes' on your Garmin and select the one you mapped out. Don't go to favorites and just click on your destination as that will not work. You must select the custom route that goes from point A to point B as opposed to selecting a destination from your present location.
Penny and Rick have owned many motorcycles starting in 1974 with Hondas, then to Suzukis, Gold Wings and ultimately Spyders.
74 Honda 360T (pair); 78 Suzuki GS 1000 (pair); 82 Honda Aspencade; 84 Honda 400; 87 Yamaha 1100; 99 Honda Valkyrie; 01 Suzuki Burgman(triked); 02 Honda GL 1800(triked); 10 Spyder RTSE; 11 Spyder RTSM; 12 Spyder RTSL (pair); 20 Spyder RTL (current)

If you have an iPhone, go to the App Store and search for Greatest Road. There's a motorcycle one and a GPS car software one.

Don't have an iPhone but the page for Greatest Roads says it works with the iPod touch and that I have so it's downloading as I type. Anybody know if there is something similar for Android phones. I may have to try another search method see what comes up. Thanks for all the hints and tips so far. Get Spyder back from the shop tomorrow, nothing major just his 600 mile oil change etc. Hope I've got a few more days to ride before winter sets in in earnest. Thought about going into storage and reducing the insurance rates for a few months but decided there will be days with clean roads and fair skies and what more could a guy and his Spyder want. Figure it's a good cure for cabin fever.
Ride safe,
Curt

When searching be sure to use greatest road as two words. Barring that even just typing greatest will bring up results:
If all that fails here's a link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/grea...347927456?mt=8

I'm not at home right now, but I have a website bookmarked called ' greatest motorcycle rides' or close to that. And you can type in your locale, if I remember right, and it will point you to the closest 'great ride'. I'll post it here if I can find it.

Iphone app store:
"Best Bike Rides"
Works well. You can add your own rides or use those added by others. Searchable by current location also.

If you have learned to use Basecamp successfully what will you charge to train me? Normally software is easy for me to get. Basecamp is not so.
