Some nice features there, Doc. Thanks for the post. In the 3D view I found that road names disappear - kinda limits the usefulness of that view.

We are extremely sorry for thefrustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can tomake Maps better.

We launched Maps initially with the first version of iOS. As time progressed,we wanted to provide our customers with even better Maps including featuressuch as turn-by-turn directions, voice integration, Flyover and vector-basedmaps. While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map appsfrom the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps bygoing to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their webapp.

Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in theworld. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stopuntil Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.

They didn't have to build one from the ground up because they wanted to make it better. They had to build a new one from the ground up because they wanted to cut google out of their device. Hence the also missing YouTube app.

Their greed is coming around to bite them in the ass. I love my Mac and iPad, but apple is becoming more and more draconian every year. Nice to see them take a kick in the nuts.
