THIS one got a big smile out of him, Fang! Unfortunately, surgeon is continuing with the clear liquids for the next two days because of a low grade temp.

Update: We are still waiting to hear back from pathology, so there's nothing much to report on Ed. He's running a low grade fever...he was sent downstairs for Xrays earlier. Unfortunately, the surgeon is not advancing his diet any for the next 2 days, so it's clear liquids for at least 2 more days. He's fed up with jello/broth...I should have brought some popsicles in, I guess. It's our grandson's 3rd birthday...we'll be seeing him later today, so that will hopefully cheer Ed up. Thank you, all, for the prayers and support...keep .

Latest update on Ed: we certainly didn't get the news we were wanting today. My birthday present from the oncologist was the news we are dealing with a Stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma, which is in Ed's bone marrow as well as GI tract. He thinks we need to start chemo right away rather than going to MD Anderson or Moffett for a second opinion. He is worried about the time delay if we try going elsewhere since it would mean chemo wouldn't start till later. He was going to call Anderson to discuss Ed's test results thus far. Surgeon advanced his diet to full liquids. He can have ice cream now! We're going to still aim for Lamont's in Sept. On a good note: I got the most beautiful flowers from Ed today...of course, we both ended up crying when I read the card. It was so sweet. Please keep up the prayers. Hopefully we'll have him home for the weekend.

Finally, Yazz, he was advanced to full liquids...so ice cream is coming next! They used to keep some up on the floor but I don't know if they still do. There are quite a few fast food places not too far away from the hospital. Parking is a and it will melt before I get back if I try to walk during the day. My daughter's roommate took me out to the house earlier to pick up a few things so I wouldn't lose my parking spot. Biggest problem he's complaining about is he's hot one minute, freezing the next...I told him "welcome to my world! Menopause!" Sheets on, sheets off, sheets on...Meanwhile he's freezing me out with the temperatures he's got in here.

I had a retired hospice nurse come crack the whip today...she got him walking, drinking more, etc. He got a talkin' to! Since then he's looked a LOT better...I got him up walking and drinking more and... Had another retired nurse BRING me a whip (8 ft long!) to crack over his if he acts up again...

Flamingobabe, we're leaning towards pursuing treatment here rather than MD since he would have a delay in chemo until after he was seen there. The doctor here will consult with them and determine therapy, to be started next week. We'll let you know if we head that way.

My mother had colon cancer and that was 25 years ago. She's now 85 years young and doing great. The treatments are far better these days so keep the faith. Best wishes to you both.

I think a colon cancer would have been better than what he's got...his cancer was in his colon (and small intestine) but it's not a colon cancer. CT in Wyoming showed a 3.5 cm mass; pathology specimen 10 days later was 5.5 cm (actually there were two nodules on pathology report, both roughly 5 cm)...I'm trying to figure the size discrepancy out (maybe docdoru can help)...is it that fast growing () or what? Oncologist says fast growing tumors tend to be more responsive to chemo, so that could be good. In any event, I am glad to report he is looking (and feeling) a lot better today. His stamina seems better, surgical pain is less, he's getting up and down without help...we're waiting for the kids and grandkids to stop by...that should help his spirits! Thanks, again, for all your support and prayers.
