Default Shift rpms and fuel economy...

Well since I've bumped the shifting rpm level up to 4000 rpm, I've been real curious about what this was going to do to my fuel economy... Normally I have found myself consistently reporting higher than average fuel mileage in the past.
    Well...
I have found that my around Town mileage has dropped from 34, to a bit over 33; not too shabby at all.
Yesterday we took a 205 mile short hop, and I averaged 37.5 mpg!
I think that I'll keep the revs up as I've now seen that it's not seriously affecting my fuel usage at all!

Or should I try Five Thousand???

I am noticing the same now that I keep the driving revs up over 4000. Yesterday on the return trip I put 168 miles on the tank and the gas light has not come on yet. I will update on my mpg when I fill the tank tomorrow. Linda went the same mileage on hers and the light went on about 5 miles before we got home.

I only use min 91 octane or 93 octane when I can get it . I try to stay away from ethanol . I shift gears around 4500rpm to 5000 RPM. I save 5th gear for the 60 mph + and get around 187 miles before I fill up and the fuel light is not on .

Yes I do... But I can put in here what they say back!

I guess that I get decent mileage because I've got a lazy right wrist. I just never twist the loud grip all that hard and I DO try to get into top gear quickly.

Kudos to you Bob for the self discipline!

I can't do it....I try but every so often I have to feel that accelleration rush!

Don't care for high speed running but a quick 3rd gear blast up to 8K+ feels sooooo good!!

I s'pose that affects my mpg economy a bit but.....oh well.

I just had my best mileage ever. 33 mpg. Went 172.8 miles and it took 5.2 gals to fill. I was down to zero bars. Based on the 33 mpg, I could have went 198 miles if I chose to run on fumes and put in 6 gals.

Much longer walks for sure. The light went on between my house and the gas station (five miles) so I knew I was okay this time. Remember, I am the conservative accountant, not the wild and crazy guy.

    Default Shifting point

I shift in the 4500 - 5000 rpm range. Sometimes will go up to 5500 rpms before shifting.

    Default Twist the grip

It is perfectly acceptable to shift between 4000 and 9000. 9000 is more fun, so to hell with fuel economy. Twist the grip and go!!!

    Hey Bob,

Something to think about. In talking to the techs while in Durango they told me the SE5 trans does not lock down until it's in the high 3000 RPM range (like 3750 or so). So if you shift to second at 4000, the R's will drop enough to cause the clutch to disengage until your R's go over 3750 again. Just sharing info.

After having conversed with Scotty my impression of him is similar to yours. Except I'd volunteer to take point. Have never been much of a follower.
