I've killed a couple with my helmets over the years... Better to let the helmet take the abuse than your face! I'm guessing that if they hit the windshield, it could be a REAL noteworthy event!
Somebody here took out a wild turkey... THAT one did some bodily harm to them as well...

I have hit a flock of small birds, working third shift and driving a country road between two corn fields. This was with my Nomad and only one actually hit me, on my left hand. Now I have had a lot of close calls with turkey buzzards on road kill.

have seen many birds in my handfull of riding years (started in 2007). The most memorable was, about a month or so ago, just out for a ride, no destination, we were coming down a country hiway, and a Bald Eagle took flight from a series of ponds that were waterfalling into each other. I think that was the Most Grand thing I have ever seen. Gods Majesty, right there in front of us.

    Default Bird Strikes

A whole gaggle of Starlings took off and flew across road in front of me. The last one in line didn't make it. He hit me in the face and got stuck between my face and my helmet. It did not feel good.

    Default Been There, Done it

The Spyder is my first bike, and I've got about 19k miles on it now, so maybe its a fluke that I've hit a bird and had one *seriously* close encounter with a Bald Eagle - swear it would have scuffed my helmet had I not ducked a bit.

But, I HAVE hit a Robin (the irony of that is NOT lost on me) - I was going about 55 mph in Madison WI - since I've got the sports windshield, it hit me square in the right Pec muscle - luckily I had the Dark Knight Riding Leathers on, so it took the blunt of the force - pretty sure it didn't survive.
Probably wouldn't have taken me off the Spyder, but I was sure glad I had a nice jacket / helmet - pretty sure that would have left one hell of a bruise.

For some reason I have always been a target for their droppings. Got hit many times while sitting at lights. Watching the fish at a sea park. Just out walking. I've never hit one on a bike. But many years ago had a bird that flew in through the right side window opening. Hit his self on the door frame, then fell in my sister's lap. That van wasn't long enough for her. I thought she was gone out the back door
