Default Travel Cover ... Just Not In Black

Well ... spring is upon us and that means warmer days and ... warmer seats.

How about something simple to reflect and keep the sun from baking that seat while we're off the bike?

Can-Am has a nice Travel Cover for the RT but it's black. Great, more heat.

In the past, I've placed an old beach towel or folded sheet over the seat to keep it from being too much of a bun warmer. However, a gentle breeze will often be enough to lift it off of the seat.

I'm considering attaching some small weights to the edges of the towel or somehow devising a method to clip or fasten the towel to keep it in place. However, that seems rather primitive.

    Any thoughts ?

Even though it is black, it does not touch the seat. So that heat does not transfer to seat. It basically puts the seat in the "shade" and also keeps everything dry in case of a pop up storm. I find it just right to keep my butt from getting toasty.

Have you tried placing the towel under the seat to pinch it down or tread a small line to it under the seat, just leave in loose enought to close your seat. Simple minds, simple solutions.

Hawk ... good thought. The black Travel Cover is certainly not much different than parking in the shade. I also like the idea of protection from a pop-up shower.

I just had lighter color on the brain.

Is what you have for $50 for an RT? And do you have a pic?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice ... in practice, however, that's just a theory.

I found one for the RS on clearance cheap if anyone is looking for one, not the BRP, and doesn't help us RT owners:
    http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/...alf_cover.html

Found another Nelson one for the RT pretty cheap:
    http://www.extremesupply.com/product...HALFCOVER.html
It doesn't go over the lights in the front like the BRP one, but it may just be on there wrong.

I think this is the same one and it has free shipping, no pic though:

Cheapest I found the BRP one is 115. Do a search for sku 219400199

Sheepskin is your answer. I've used one on every bike I've owned the last 10 years for winter and summer. Believe it not, it is way cooler than the plastic seat. Theres various makers but Alaska Leathers make good ones. They can be easily trimmed to fit your seat. Look for Merino sheepskin; its a shorter denser variety and doesn't pack down like a long hair version.

For my RS a company called Quick Shade had a pretty nifty cover that was easy to use and it shaded the seat and handle bars as well as keeping people off the Spyder .I have used this on my RT as well .

I went to Walmart and bought a cheap crib pad. Dyed it gray so it wouldn't look so much like a crib pad. On an RT I open the trunk, tuck the elastic part in and shut the door. I then stretch it over the handle bars and bungie it to the front. It hovers over the seat to shade it, the pad is plastic on one side so the seat is protected from (very) light rain.
Not elegent, but it is easy and quick to put on.

    Default Follow-Up - - Nelson-Rigg Half Cover

I have just received the Nelson-Rigg half cover for the RT and it is perfect. The fit and quality are most excellent.

It is lined at the windshield area and has straps on both sides to secure the cover to the passenger floor boards to keep it from blowing off.

I found it on Amazon.com for $54.95 and it was delivered through Kinney Cycles. Good people ... great value.

OK ... it's black. I've gotten over that!

Thanks for the info! I was thinking about buying that same cover, but wondered if it had protection for the windshield - think I'll place an order now.
