    I agree. I usually say around $18K,

They sometimes say something like "You can buy a CAR for that" LOL - "but not a Porsche" I retort, "and this is like a Porsche with three wheels". Ususally shuts them up if they are ignorant (most) or gets into a new level of performance if they are not.
Overall though it IS rude. They usually don't stop the guy in the Audi R8 and say "How much?"

Actually, I forgot to add: an easy solution is just to quote sticker, i.e. "The sticker for these new starts around $16,000 (or more, if you own an RT)."

It's factual, and if they're actually interested in the bike, they'd discover it for themselves after 30 seconds online.

If they're just razzing YOU about the price, well, you didn't lie to them, but you also didn't give them the satisfaction of knowing what YOU paid for your ride.

For if they then ask, "That's sticker, what did you pay for it?" you're completely justified in saying "nunya!"

Never really had this problem, usually they not sure how to start a conversation and end up asking an obvious question like, has it got 3 wheels? to break the ice. then the conversation starts.

I just say 16.5k for the RS.
Then by the time you do tax ,title, licensing, gear, and after market stuff you're near 20k
Then the wife yells at you. So then you have to buy her something to make up for it

Some people comment that it's the price of a car.
Others say its about the same as other bikes
some others say wow that is a lot.

    I don't mind.

There will always be people with more money than you. There will always be people with less money than you.
I worked hard to get the Spyder so I don't mind sharing information with others. Spyder Rocks yo!

I also say during the converation " My motorcycle friends always bust my balls as to when I'm going to take the training wheels off". My daughter says "Dad, you have a tri-cycle like me too! " and I explain how my wife wouldn't let me get a motorcycle so I found a LoopHole and got this instead!! ha! They usually laugh!

I offer to let people sit on it. I'm excited over the spyder. (well.. I was.. /RIP 540 I love you!.. anyway.. enough trama drama heheheh)

I get that question a lot. Depending on my mood and or circumstances I will give one of the following answers:
I don't know what she paid for it. It was a gift.
    Or
    I paid about 100,000 quarters.
    Or
    I paid about 250,000 dimes.
    Or
I will give the cost ranges or the RT & RS.
It's better to make your own plans than to be part of someone else's.

I have no problem trying to educate people, or answer questions from someone who's polite. I've even handed out some of the promotional cards that BRP mailed me. But when someone yells at me from across a crowded parking lot "What's that cost", their a PINHEAD, and I'm going to ignore them all day long.

Living in WI, that's pretty much the same answer I give, "Less than a Harley!"
That's usually enough of an answer for the 'rude' people, but I'll actually tell them if they are serious about it.

    Default my standard reply

    +"This is an '08, and cost 15800. 2011s cost under 17."

Obviously, I'll modify my answer as the years pass...

Just an opinion. If someone is interested enough to walk up to a stranger and ask a question, then what's the downside of answering it. People ask me, I tell them 22k sticker, I picked mine up for $14500 with 400 miles on it used!!

    When they ask how much?
I ask do they ride bikes?
If they say NO.... I say " if you have to ask, you can't afford it ".
If they say YES... I asked them how much did their ride cost.
    Conversation over.

I would have said no I pay by check. I have yet to have someone yell to me how much, or start the conversation with that question. If I did I would not reply if they were yelling to me, and if they came up to me I would tell them the price range. When some one is asking real questions about the spyder, and come up to the price. I will tell them the price range, and what I paid for mine so they know that like a car they can haggle the price.

    Default About as much as

My stock answer has been " About 80% of a nicely equipped Silverado extra cab." That usually does it. The best one I got was from some squid on a moped that asked and I think I replied," I think a dozen or so mopeds, I forget..."

The two questions I get the most are "How much and how fast" to which I always answer "Too much and too fast!".

I got it at the scooter store at NO COST TO ME

Question I've been getting lately is :"Do you like it?" not "How do you like it?" I tell them "No, I hate it - people always asking Do you like it"
