Default Which Motor Oil Do You Use In Your Spyder?

Ok, not intended to start another Oil War, just curious. Not trying to convert anyone (though I might if encouraged! ).

I may have left off your chosen oil. Didn't mean to leave anyone out but the limit is 10 items. I hope I got the most popular ones listed.

Since many here use the 2 different flavors of BRP oil, and since BRP is using Castrol products, I did split these up into the 2 categories of Blended and Full Synthetic. So to be fair I'd lump both BRP and both Castrol votes together (each to it's own brand name) to compare with the rest of the oils.

    Have fun!

I know, but I think there has been some shifting in this area and there have been a lot of new members since May. Not trying to upstage your poll by any means.

It may be interesting to compare the 2.

The 2008 spec was for full syn, so I use Castrol full syn in Nancy's GS, but my RT came with BRP blended, so that's what it gets. I'm not really that particular, but those are the most convenient to purchase around here.

Leave it to you to do something that I did not anticipate, like using 2 different oils in your Spyders. My poll does not account for this...

Does Amsoil have a package for RT owners, say like a case of the correct oil and oil and air filters?

I switched mine over to amsoil 10-40 motorcycle oil after the first service. no problems what so ever....but then again I am a dealer for Amsoil so Im a little bias.

The local Harley dealer techs around here have been telling the guy's to run it in the HD bikes engine and trans...I sell several cases of 20-50 motorcycle oil a week to the harley riders.

Well, just noticed that I put Royal Blue and it should have been Royal Purple! Sorry about that! I wish there was a way to edit a Poll but I fully understand why you can't.

I had my 3,000 (actually 3,450 miles) oil change by the dealer and they put in BRP blend. I will run it and then I am going to Amsoil Synthetic. I hear a lot about it on this site and the Gold Wing site, so I think I will switch...

Yes, of course! Royal Purple! How could I get that wrong? Hope it doesn't skew the results....

I think it is interesting that tons of people are using BRP Blended oil but no one (yet) is using Castrol blended (which is the same thing).

Be on notice that if you use oil not directly labeled by BRP you have voided you BEST program, and anything that can be connected to it in any small way will be.
Go ahead say it is not legal. Well spend twice what your spyder cost to fight it to gain $3000.

I don't know where you're coming up with this stuff but how about providing some documentation on that. Seems you got something going on with you and your dealer and your warranty claim. How about filling in the blanks for the rest of us.

C'mon man---- just buck up and tell us what's going on. BEST isn't going to just void your warranty if you're using an oil that meets all the required specs.

    Spyder #1 - 2008 GS SM5 Premier Edition #1977. RIP after 80,000 miles.
    Spyder #2 - 2012 RT SM5. Traded in after 24,000 miles.
    Spyder #3 - 2015 F3 SM6. Put 13,000 miles on and sold it.
    Spyder #4 - 2017 F3 SM6. Too good of a deal to pass up!

The Warranty document would have to make a specific statement saying that ONLY BRP Lubricating Products can be used, (which it won't say because it is illegal).

This issue has been through the courts and settled, there really isn't any legal debate at all about it. All that is (or can be) required is that the correct Specifications be met by the oil used.

Dealers and others may attempt to film-flam a customer, but having to deal with less than honest people does not change the law.

I know that Amsoil will help you fight a fraudulent denial of claim with documentation. I'm not saying they will provide you with legal council but it is in their best interest to keep these warrantee people (and false rumors) honest.

I beleive other oil companies will help with information in a case like this as well.

You should be able to take this amount to small claims court which is not expensive at all, you get a fast and usually very fair settlement too. My experience with Small Claims Court is that if you're right, you win. Shady practice businesses hate small claims court. If they know they are wrong they may simply honor the warrantee without any court appearance or judgement. They can't bring legal council and it's a very straight up process.

It sounds like you have some repair issues and I'm sorry about that. But it doesn't necessarily mean that others will experience the same thing.

I just switched to Amsoil. I was checking into Amsoil and the dealer I was talking to set me up as a dealer so I made a purchase and changed the oil.

hater1, you're off base here. Not using BRP oil will not void your warranty.

And I will say it. It's not legal. And for your info, if I had to seek legal action it wouldn't cost me a dime.
