Default RT Mirrors - Loose - My fix

With having to remove the Mirrors on the RT everytime the tupperware has to come off they seem to get more and more loose
it also seems that the can be removed with little effort and could be prone to being removed by vandals although they would have to know
    the sequence

BRP Sould have come up with a more friendly version - The fittings are prone to being damaged just in normal on/off operation if care is not taken

Having said that I wanted to make my mirrors more secure and less prone to shaking whilst riding

    This is what I did

I removed the mirror having marked at the bottom edge where the mirror fits against the bodywork - near to the Headlights
I drilled a hole in the bodywork to take a Cable tie (Zip tie in US)
I drilled a hole in the RT Mirror at the bottom edge so the 2 holes would line up once the mirror was back in place
A Cable tie was threaded through the bodywork then though the mirror - Once the mirror was back on the Cable tie was pulled tight
this secured the mirror to the bodywork - The cable tie sits below the mirror and is not noticable from the front but can be seen under the
Mirror (The excess cable tie is cut off)

When I want to remove the Mirror I just cut the cable tie and replace it with a new cable tie when refitting the Mirror
The cost of a Cable tie is alot less than the cost of a replacement Mirror

As with any modification Photos help to explain how it was done - So here are some and I hope it helps other who may want to secure their Mirrors

Also, periodically you need to take needle nose pliers and squeeze the little metal retainer rods back straight. The will bow out after repeated remove/replace. That usually fixes them right up tight again.

That looks like a pretty slick fix!
Now if I can work up the courage to take a drill to the Tupperware...

Best fix i have seen to tighten those wobbly mirrors. Thanks a million. Mine definitely need something like your cable tie fix. pinching those wires together that grap the posts only works a few times.

they need to design the mirror mounting like Mercedes did theirs. a single bolt. the mirror head folds forward to access the bolt. piece of cake.

just snapped my mirrors back on today, and they are a little loose at the front. already squeezed the clips. going to use the zip tie method on'em tomorrow.

I just bought a dozen of those clips and change them out when I popped a mirror off. They're available and not expensive. I mean, they're just really good paper clips. My solution but thanks for the idea when my solution no longer works.

There is a VASTLY BETTER solution discussed here:

    http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/s...imited-Mirrors

It really makes all the other solutions look like archaic bandaids & works soooo much better than the OE fittings you'll be gob-smacked!

Your right Bob (Might as well admit it)

I thought I had posted this in response to this thread

    http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/s...imited-Mirrors

It was not intended to appear as a new thread

As you read through the thread you will see Russell Culley has come up with a great idea for securing the RT Mirrors, So I will try a set of Magic Mirror mounts and use my existing Zip ties as a 2nd line of defence to secure the mirrors
Removal of the mirrors in the future will be easier, Cut the zip tie and remove the mirrors as explained on you tube by Russell Culley

Make your own. There's a thread from last year showing how to do it.
