    Default Brake Squeak

    Hi,

Any advice on how to quiet squeaking brakes ?

Only 550 miles on the bike...shouldn't be an issue with worn brake pads.

    Thanks,

I've asked that question, and the common answer is "oh, Spyders do that."

    Good luck!

Check to see if you have the 3rd Generation pads. It solved the issue for me!

Gen 3 pads and proper break in and no squeak.

DO NOT go with the EBC brand pads---horrible pads- wear fast

If you think your pads squeak, you oughta try living on 2 miles of dirt road! Mine squeak, growl, etc., until I have put several miles on hard surface! Yep, I have a 2010 RT.

My dealer had to replace the rear brake rotor and install Gen 3 pads and new mounting bolts to reduce the loud squeal. I had tried many other remedies but none kept the squeal away very long. The bolt problem that they found was that the bolts that hold the rear caliper in place had a groove worn in them so that pads were quite loose on the bolts and would vibrate. Now when the spyder sits for a few days while I am out of town for work the squeal is there when I back out of the garage. Once moving and after applying the brakes it does not squeal so I consider it almost solved. Before the replacement anytime I applied the brakes there was a loud screech from the rear.

I Hear ya! I do live 2 miles down a dirt road also. soon as that bike hits the gravel / dirt it starts squealin like a banshee. Ive finally just resorted to wipin my brake rotors down at 1st stop on rides. takes the squeal out for a short time.but it always comes back.

Now I have some leads to look into...I'll post the results once I get a chance to tinker with the pads/calipers.

I bought an '08 used recently with only 3000 miles. From the beginning, my brakes have been squeaking. But after reading the threads on this forum, it seems normal for spyder ryders to have squeaking brakes.

Both our Spyders do it, especially if either machine sits for any length of time. I just clean the components off and it goes away. Just make it part of the pre-flight now before we take off as it's Pretty embarrassing not to mention annoying!

I'm a member since 2009 and this is my first post. Constant reader and supporter.
Done 55000ks in NZ and this problem is surely one that BRP don't know how to fix economically. The truth is the rear pads do not release properly and continue to hold causing drag, heat and fuel costs. Check rear disk temp compared to fronts after a short ride. If someone can find a cure other than changing the caliper I'll be surpised and very very gratefull.

spoke with a fellow rider the other day and he claims, if you attempt to do the rear/front pads yourself , the Spyder will throw a code and requires a trip to the dealer. Did not have the time to go in depth with this issue. Any body else have info or ideas on this ???? Thanks.

Thanks Guys Ive tried all the fixes on this page while they all work to some extent they do not overcome the real cause. The bloody caliper piston does not release properly. Embarising when travelling with Biker mates and you pull the "Old reverse out of the park" trick.
