I feel bad for the guy but in today's day and age you have to believe this was a scam from the get go. Come on, a Spyder for that low price and send the money Western Union. That has scam written all over it. There is just too much publicity now days not to know to be wary of some things. I hope he gets his money back and they catch this scam artist.

A hard lesson to learn. If it looks too good to be true, it usually is.

I hope they catch whoever is doing this. But, I suspect that he won't get his money back regardless. The money is long gone. Sad.

My mother is a retired school teacher. She fell victim to a Publishers Clearing House Internet scam. She got taken REALLY bad! I never expected it to happen to her.

I have done hundreds of deals online and eBay included, and any of these "too good to be true" deals are almost always a scam. That aside, eBay is a very good source for buying and selling. Always be aware of the overseas deals. They are almost 100% fraud. But, if you want to know whatever you are selling is worth, put it on eBay and you will get a good idea of what it's worth. I always say "I know exactly what you are selling is worth, it's worth what a qualified buyer is willing to pay, no less, no more."

    Default Bummer

How many times do we have to hear about the Western Union payment scams let alone everything else that sounded fishy about this transaction. Pay for nothing via Western Union.
Ever hear of a synonym?..... Here's one for you, Western Union and Scam!!! Probably will not happen to the guy again though. So sorry for his woes. Bummer.

    Default Scam

My cousin here in Houston almost fell for a similar scam on ebay. It seems like they could set up a scam to catch these guys just as easily. Sad that this guy lost his money.

I agree...have to be pretty dumb to send money without any binding contract or proof that you're gonna get something in return. It's bad enough people are always 'phishing' to grab info from emails...this is an obvious scam...

Sounds like an opertunity to me. Let's go for it. We just need a couple of hundred thousand people to help us out. I'm thinking maybe a grand per? Please send funds via Western Union............

Please no disrespect to OP. Not my intention.

Something like a wire tap or stakeout on the Western Union office where the "seller" is picking up the money.

Actually, you know who I feel bad for?

    Western Union.

No, seriously-- an ageless American business with a brand increasingly suffering with each passing year because they're the easiest mechanism for this kind of fraud.

In other thread discussions on these scams we have had, SpyderGirl who investigates these kinds of things stated it is very hard to catch the actual person who is pulling the scam. Unfortunately almost everything today is buyer beware.

If the seller does not accept Pay Pal than I would never purchase it. I do not always use Pay Pal if I know and trust the seller, but always use it if there is any question.

+2 As Bob said earlier; it takes two to Tango and the buyer; while totally getting screwed, was looking to make the deal of the century.. instead he made the paper!

Even Western Union gives you a warning before sending money stating that make sure you know the person who you are sending the money to. Sometimes I don't feel sorry for these people for not paying attention to details, but I do hope they catch these scammers and milk them from all the money they stole.

I saw an ad for a before I bought mine. Wanted $7,500 for it and I answered his email. His was listed in Indiana, but he replied that it was near Seattle. He never asked for money, but he did say he would ship it to my house. He even send extra pictures. I told him I had a friend that lived in the Seattle area and could go check out the for me, and never heard from the seller again.

Check out the article in the June/July issue of Readers Digest on internet scams. Very interesting.

    Default Watch Craigslist too!!

When I was selling my two wheel bike, had several scam type hits on Craiglists also. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

I have customers send me Western Union payment fairly regularly and it is a great way to do business. But it is a CASH TRANSACTION! There needs to be a lot of trust involved.

There are a lot of scams out there for 1 reason... because they work! People do not do their homework.

I do a lot of Internet buying and selling so I have friends call me when they are concerned. Some call me BEFORE they buy, others AFTER!. Once you send the money by any kind of cash transaction, like Western Union, it's a done deal.

You're DONE, and They get the Deal!
