Spyder RT Second Fuel tank

I was at Jim Pott's Store in Woodstock Il. looking at my new 2011 RTS being unboxed and new extras installed when Jim showed me Spyder that he is installeng a second tank up in the bottom of the front trunk. The install is a 4 gal tank and it looked like a aircraft quality tank and fittings. I guess that is a way to get extra range from the trike. I know I've seen treads about this subject before. Using small 1 gal gas cans etc. Bob

how much of the Frunk did the additional tank use uP..? Was all the storage space lost or only a portion??

Hey that's me. Yep that's my baby. It should be good for 4 gallons. As you can see by the photos I've lost most of the storage space but to me it's worth it. Besides that what the bags are for. That trunk just seems like a natural place to put an aux tank.

I'll bet you will be looking for a place to stop and walk around for a few minutes at about 120 or less miles..
Maybe not the 1st hundred but from there on out.

I agree. For going out touring, you want to stop and stretch your legs every couple of hours or so.
But if you use your Spyder as a daily commuter, you have to buy gas every day, or maybe every two days. A larger fuel capacity is a big help when you want to ride the Spyder every day.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong. If I am, I'm sure someone on this site will tell me.(WEG)

For $1250 I can stop a lot of times. Like Forrest said, my wife and I need to circulate the blood and warm up the kinks every 100 miles or so. But to each his/her own. If I feel like I will need an extra gas container I can get a 4 gallon for a lot less than $1250. But then again, I have never found the need yet and I have traveled many thousands of miles.

It seems like I'm always looking at a low fuel lite, Especially if i have to go somewhere late at night when few gas stations are open, So in those cases i carry a 1 and 1/3 gal sealed tank..

I too can ride farther than 100 miles before riding fatigue sets in. If I could afford a solution like this and wanted to give up the truck space, I'd do it. I'd be happy if someone came up with an affordable replacement tank for the stock tank that could get the capacity up to 8 or 9 gallons.

Another idea I had was to go with a Corbin solo seat and then build into the area where the passenger would have been a flat top style tank like Dean Tanji did on his Yamaha or something like the tank on the BMW. See photos and link below. If you were to combine this with the Kewlmetal rear rack you could easily get 3 or 4 gallons more gas on board. Another advantage with this design is you wouldn't have to use a pump because you would be above the stock tank. Just open a valve and fill up going down the road.

There was another SpyderLover here a few years back that put an auxiliary tank on the rear rack of his Spyder. Can't remember his name or if he still has a Spyder. I'm thinking he sold the tank setup and Spyder and went back to two wheels.
