Default Tech tip for changing the trans filter (RT-SE)

As you know I like to save time as much as possible when it's a job that I'm going to do more than once. I have a short cut for changing oil on the RT and at the time I had the SM and not the SE.

There's one more filter on the SE that needs to be changed and even with all the bodywork off of the Spyder there is one bolt that's a real pain to get to. You pretty much need a ball ended allen wrench to get to that bolt and because of the angle you can't get too much torque on it without rounding out the bolt.

So here's my east fix to the problem. As you can see the problem is this support brace is in the way. I eyeballed where I needed the wrench to be and drilled a hole in the brace. That was the ticket and now I have a good clean shot at that bolt. Hope this helps.

Default oil change on the road

Lamonster, when you are on the road and you use T handle tools to take out the scewes for the filter caps and by the pitures you showed you went thourgh a hole that you drilled though the support to get to trans cap, how do you torke the cap scew ?

I'd say with the new, longer filter cap this will become a MUST Mod.

The t-handle works fine for torquing the bolts. It's an o-ring seal so it's doesn't have to be real tight.

With the lower bolt out I just pushed the brace out of the way. Worked fine......

That said, I will drill the hole for next oil change.

My dealers tech showed me this trick. It does make it MUST easier to get to the almost impossible to get to screw.
