Looks similar, if not identical, to the ones on the 2010 RT-SE machines. I wonder if this dampened unit will help with the sprocket/spline damage issue? It may even isolate some belt harmonics. Let us know what you think.

Those are not the drive ribs. They are the little cooling ribs on the outer surface.

Interesting, I was noticing that on Lamont's RT the other day. It has to be a vibration dampener. Could also work as a flywheel, though a bit late in the power train for that.

    Should smooth things out some.

It would be a dampener for sure, I've only seen the pic but a close examination of the part may reveal that it could possibly be a Fluid dampener BRP has been known to slip Fluiddampeners in where harmonics have been a problem. One can only hope

Very interesting indeed. Wouldn't it be really cool if the new front sprocket that is being put on my Spyder is this one. I highly doubt that is the case, but it would be nice if it can be retrofitted to the older models.

For sure would be cool if they put that one on, we still have yet to hear on a retrofit, I can only assume it will can't believe they would change output shaft, redesigned pulley should go on but I want confirmation before I order one. Please let us know if anyone gets a definite answer

"A flywheel is a mechanical device with a significant moment of inertia used as a storage device for rotational energy. Flywheels resist changes in their rotational speed, which helps steady the rotation of the shaft when a fluctuating torque is exerted on it by its power source such as a piston-based (reciprocating) engine" (or a heavy Throttle hand! )

If this could fit our older RS machines it would be very promising...

My Spyder is still in the shop. I talked to them again today, and asked them if while talking to BRP they could find out if the new 2011 sprocket can be retrofitted. Not sure if they will ask or not, but I am hoping they will find something out for us. Best I can do is try.

Looking at the RT and RS part #'s, there was a changeup but both models use the same shafts so should be good to go:

    2010 RT sm5
420620612 Main Shaft. Serial number lower than 8458089
420620616 Main Shaft. Serial number 8458090 and up
    2011 RT sm5
    420620616 Main Shaft.

    2010 RS sm5
    420620612 Main Shaft.

    2011 RS sm5
420620612 Main Shaft. Serial number lower than 8454845
420620616 Main Shaft. Serial number 8454846 and up

Something interesting here; for the 2009-2010 sprockets we have a P/N of 7505500744 at a price of $61.41. The 2011 sprocket is 40 bucks more. Why? Is there more to this front sprocket other than a different casting to fit the flywheel or are there other factors such as material compostion? Is it a bit beefier than the 2009-2010 sprocket? Enquiring minds want to know!

I will have to look at mine. What if my RT does not have this upgraded sprocket ?? Will BRP give it to me or let me replace it later when something goes wrong?

Normally, a design change is not covered as a warranty item. If you want the new sprocket/damper, I suspect you will have to pay for it.
