I am not sure about the alarm systems, but know there are a few who have them that will likely chime in. As for lighting, what ideas are you looking for? Some think I may have gone a bit overboard in the lighting department, but you can check out my mods thread in my signature block and judge for yourself.
welcome to you as well.

Gorilla Alarm
There are any number of Motorcycle alarm systems out there that will do the trick. Scorpio make good alarms and there is also Talon.
I settled on a basic Gorilla Alarm for my machine. Mounted the alarm just behind the battery and hardwired it directly to the battery. I did not hook up the tilt sensor for obvious reasons and I am very pleased with its cost and functionality. I primarily set it on the "warn away" function which I have found deters people from fooling around with the bike when I leave it in a public place. I only set the full alarm when I travel.
It takes a bit of experimentation to set the sensitivity control just right and after numerous tries I finally had it set to go off when someone tried mounting the trike or bumped up against it with a bit of force. I did not bother with the two way pager system, but might upgrade for this functionality sometimes this year.
Lots of literature out there on the web and prices are all over the place. Good luck with your purchase.

Alarms!!
On a motorcycle, makes no matter. It can be stolen in a matter of seconds and no one will even notice when it is shoved into a van. On a Spyder, well, It can hardly be shoved into a van so someone should notice when a person is trying to steal it. My alarm is a 44 mag when I'm on or near it. A disc lock and large cable through the wheels even if it can be cut. A person would look mighty suspicious carrying a pair of bolt cutters and trying to cut the cable. But the best alarm is full replacement insurance. Oh, and always turn the handle bars and lock when parked. I find that most people wont try to mount it if they cant turn the bars. Not always safe but try to park where you can see it.

44 mag? Hope you have a strong webbing on your shooting hand! How the heck do you hide that thing? Are you assuming a large gorilla or game animal is going to steal your bike? I would think a 40 cal. would do just fine...and consider if you have a few people stealing it...you might need to double tap, and you can't do that with a 44 mag!!!!
I agree fully with you about the steering lock...nothing worse than a bike that won't move straight...it's easy to take the bike out of gear and/or take off the emergency brake (if someone even knows the bike has one), but the steering is a tougher one to deal with...

I don't think that will work on the Spyder given you have to press the menu key before you can start it. I have a Scorpio SR I800 RFID Security System and I really like the fact it disarms/arms itself using the R.F.I.D. remote. No need to push any button!

I had a talon on my 08 rs. Would drive me crazy and th cost I thought was out there. My dealer suggest on of her alarms. I like it so far. It pages you when goes off if someone is trying to sit or move your spider. I will let you know over the next couple of days how well I like It or Not?

I opted for a Scorpio 600 with cutoff and proximity sensor. Right price and features- I wanted a backup battery and proximity sensor first and foremost. I don't have it installed yet so I can't share how well it works but have read good things.

Never liked to double anything. In Nevada, we are legally able to carry non concealed firearms. But if they don't fall permanently and can get up, chances are they will sue you. Therefore, 44 or 50 cal. is the only way to go. Not losing my Spyder to some moron.

Ummmm ... don't think you can shoot a thief unless your life is in danger. So my Judge sits in its holster until its needed. But 36 cal. buck shots traveling at 1200 fps should do the trick no matter what. As for my Talon alarm, I like it but its just there to keep nosy people away for the most part.

The Gorilla Basic alarm works great on my Spyder RT-S. Of course my Springfield Arms XD45 is too large to carry on the bike with me so my Taurus P145 works like a charm. Something about staring down the barrel of a .45 ACP Cal does something to folk!

Hard to testify if you are pushing up daises! But it may not stop their "loved ones" from suing you.

True & False. Some states allow the "defending of personal property" as justified. The "life threatening" argument is a typical legal statue in most states. Thus research YOUR state and see what the guidelines are!

I hear ya on that. But I just can't justify using deadly force defending personal property.

How'd they steal it?
Just wondering. Has anyone ever had their Spyder stolen? If so, how'd they do it?

I'm not concerned with anyone wheeling it away but am concerned with tampering. My spyder seems to scream "mess with me".

I am sure they "love" to try to steal it, but they probably will try to mess with it instead because they don't know how the eff to ride it away because the "break" is missing.

Need you advise on location of components and its installation.
I bought the same system and temporarily installed the main console under the brake fluid reservoirs, on top of their hoses.
Ran the cables to the battery, the proximity sensor to the center upper frame member (under the "Y" tupperware), and the antenna cable (peeled its end) on top of the black plastic that covers the gas tank (right side).
I have not been able to make it work correctly, sometimes the alarm sounds when it is supposed to be un-armed, sometimes not.
When I press the remote, I have to maintain it pressed for a few seconds until it finally chirps acknowledging a command. And I have to be near the Spyder to make it work.
Have not yet adjusted the proximity sensor, which needs to be done.
Any advice or comment, and pictures, will be appreciated.
Regards, Pilo

hah...that's if you can properly handle a .44 mag...where the heck would you put it anyway? What's the barrel length on that one? Also, if you hit an arm, it's going to be coming off with that caliber...
How about a nice glock 26 or 27...tiny and will get the trick done! No need to 'overkill'...
