what kind of engine would you like ?
it`s told that ROTAX workes on a new engine for the spyders ..
the have different modells on their webside www.rotax.com
so what kind of modell you would prefer ?
for me could be better
fuel-consumption / torque /oil-service intervall /
and a little more HP..
maybe a little more show - like here

power, if a bike does not have enough snot to break 150mph then its not a bike to me, NOT saying everyone should drive that fast all the time, with that you of course need better brakes and suspension. so 1/3 more power is what I think is needed. so a 1298 duc motor or a zx1400 or at a min a r1 988cc yamaha motor.

Flat four or six cylinder boxer motor...1200-1400 cc would probably do it. A longer stroke V-twin might be acceptable. The RTS needs torque and a lower rpm band. It also needs a lower rpm idle. Other parameters would likely kill these thoughts. The engine has to fit in the frame and body, and it has to meet emissions requirements. If a flat motor would fit, though, it would allow for a larger fuel tank, and possible be easier to service. I don't think you will ever see good mileage from something the size of a barn door, with the aerodynamics of a brick, but more touring range would be a blessing. Stopping every 100 miles for gas is a gigantic pain!

engine...
As I ride one-up 90% of the time, I think the power is adequate for the RT. However as Scotty mentioned, ease of maintenance, a larger fuel tank, and lower idle speed would be GREAT.

MORE HP and MORE TORQUE ... thats all i got to say about that (in my best forrest gump voice)

My 08 GS M5 Has all the power i need, But if i had a say I'll opp. for a engine with a narrow V 45/52 Then it would feel and sound like you have real Motorcycle engine under you, Then most people wouldn't need to add loud pipes so to feel like their riding a real bike.

I will go with SethO. There is no such thing as to much HP so i will go with the ZX1400. I like my spyder but if Kawasaki ever buils one I am jumping ship. I had a KFX700 ATV V-twin with mods. and it had more torque than what I have now. Not complaining just wishing.

Something like this, with a LaMonster supercharger of course.

Looks like the Rotax 1125 ( in the above link) with 146 HP would be a good start!

If it fits in the water sport toys, let's envision this 215 HP engine in the RT. I know, I know, but we can dream, right? http://www.rotax.com/en/Innovation/

I like the idea of slightly larger engine and a bigger gas tank so we can get a couple hundred miles out of a trip. Larger, so that the engine is not working to hard propeling our barn door down the highway, as well as quieter like some of the other touring bikes out there. I would like to hear the radio through the speakers without cranking it up so loud. Im not into horsepower and speed over triple digits--so I dont need that capability. That is just my opinion, and I know that others do like speed and high performance. Give the touring types one engine, and the performance types a different modification, rather than trying to make one engine fit all. We have diffrerent models to choose from--there should be a couple engines to go with them.

Without stopping to look it up, I think Rotax has a 1200 3-cylinder that makes around 150 HP without being pressurized. I've never been able to find the torque rating on it. Couple this engine with shaft drive and I'd buy in a heartbeat.
Of course, I've always thought that a ST1300 engine with a reverse gear would do real well in a Spyder.

i would like to see my triumph rocket engine in one 140 ft pounds of torque that should do it all.

Here is a new idea from Ol'WackyDan...
I've always said give us the original 146 HP of our engine to play with.
But if I were to fantasize about something completely different...
It would be a 3 cylinder Rotax... More torque and HP, but BRP could get fancy pants and shut down the 3rd cylinder when just cruising, and turn on that cylinder based on engine loading, and throttle position. Power plus economy. That could be the first ever bike motor with that feature.
And yeah... I would pay for it.
WackyDan - Fun, not crazy.

A boxer 6 with 1500cc would be nice. Make it M1A2 battle tank grade for durability and take some of the nanny controls away. The Nanny should not be shutting you down because of a blown blub. It could flash a warning led on the instrument cluster. Ken krb1945

I think that they tried with the "990" and "991" tuning differences...

You can pretty much bet the only engine we will ever see in a Spyder will be a Rotax. All the other suggestions are great but Rotax is owned by BRP and I'm sure they can make what they have work for us in some shape or form.
I want more power (torque), longer life and better fuel economy (6 speed). Just saying.
