DPS replacement

Hello all like to find out if anyone in Arizona has had there DPS replaced yet I have a 2008 RS and a 2010 RT have yet to get one done. Ride now has told me when they do get to me I will have to leave my bike with them so they can take out the unit send to BRP then get the new one back and put it in. About a 3 week job I have heard on here were people are having it done in one day. You got to love it some of these shops think you never ride your bike you just like to see how long it can be in the shop. Plus I store my bikes inside they store your bike outside. I have a problem with that. We had golf ball size hail last week. NICE

BRP sent the wrong units to Ride Now in Tucson. They were suppose to be for the RS's I guess and they sent two for RT's, but BRP want them sent back! WHAT!!!! There are 3 RT's in line right now! Why can't BRP just let Ride Now do the RT's and not waste freaking time mailing stuff back and forth through customs?!?!?!? I'm still far down on the list but with those two RT units sitting at Ride Now it could have been done last week! That ticks me off! But if I ever get up to bat, I'll let ya know!

If you have another dealer around, go there. Once the dps is in the dealers hand, its a 2 hour job. No waiting for parts or anything. Your dealer is fubar.

All dealers in my area have a wait list. They go down the list and call you when the unit arrives. You have 24 hours to bring your unit in and leave it with them or they go to the next one in line.

According to my dealer, all units are shipped overnight on return. Ride Now is a big monstrosity network that I wouldn't leave my bicycle with overnight. But that's how I feel about them...strictly my feelings. If you don't mind a ride to SD I can check with my dealer this week if you can get it done here in 2 hours.

I doubt that BRP sent wrong units. Not saying they didn't, I just doubt it. This appears to be a very strictly controlled exchange by BRP. If not, this would get all out of control. If a dealer does it by fix and exchange like BRP wants it done, then no Spyders will be held for 3 weeks, much less overnight. It is about a 2 hour job. Dealer tells you anything else, it's BS.
I lived in Tucson 18 years. Is your dealer on Ina or 22nd? I bought 2 bikes from the Ina store, but they never worked on either one. I just felt a bit uneasy about their service department.

Here is how my DPS replacement under the DPS recall went. ( I did have my DPS replaced last year at Christmas after it 'acted up'. )

Drove by the Shop last Thursday. Asked if I was in the "recall" - since I had already had the original swapped out. They checked and "yes". Since I was over the 12K mark, I was due for that service. And, would they 'please check and see if I qualified for the fan upgrade' - things run hot out here in the high desert in the summer.

Blake, my service guy, told me he would check all that out - and get everything scheduled - but it would probably be next Thursday before everything could be coordinated. I told him Friday worked better for me. He said he would call as soon as he got everything confirmed.

Blake called me back on Saturday - Friday was a go for everything. 3 hours for the DPS replacement and fan. I have had a cold for the last week, and being more fuzzy headed than usual, said, 'great, I would wait while they did the work - see you Friday morning' and didn't give it another thought.

Of course, when they checked me in Friday morning, Blake suddenly went, 'Oh-Oh." The 12K service is pretty extensive and it would take until the end of the day. OK, I called my neighbor and he picked me up, but with my cold kicking up, I told Blake that I would be in Saturday morning - instead of later on Friday. He said they would call if they ran into any problem.

The Spyder was ready Saturday morning when I got there.

On the ride home, yes, it handled different - more sensitive. I think the nanny kicked in several times - something which is unusual. I expect it will be better when I adjust to the changes in steering and put on a sway bar.

As far as the shop and service went, five stars. None of the crap you folks in AZ have to put up with. ( though I do think the Spyder shop on the westside of Albuquerque is staffed by AZ rejects - I don't go there any more after being given the same kind of run around you seem to be getting )

Having a good shop more than doubles the pleasure of owning a Spyder.

Nice to get the fan done...they won't do it in MD unless you get error messages...also, Carlo said the bike is fine at 6 or 7 bars...no problem whatsoever...

I got the missing air dam and don't think it does anything at all. I rode about 100 miles on Saturday in 75-80 degree heat...low humidity...bike was still at 4-5 bars...whatever...I'll leave it on...

Tom - Keep us posted as to how you like the feel with the new install. I had mine done this last week and am not loving it - way too sensitive. "Hunts" all over the road - even on a flat, straight stretch. The corners are sorta scary as it's hard to hold it in an even curve - have to keep making small corrections since it's soo sensitive - and even the tiniest input moves it quite a bit. I've had the nanny kick in on corners I've never had a problem with before. Hoping I get used to it and figure out a better way to ride/control it but with 8500+ miles on it, I'm not crazy about "relearning". Scotty mentioned in another post that he didn't like the over-sensitive steering on his new RT and from his description, this is what my 2008 SM5 now feels like.

My dealer, America's Motor Sports in Nashville TN. set a dps unit aside for me. They started the work on Tuesday morning and had it ready for pick up before lunch. They have already completed 5 replacements.

The new dps unit has made the steering imput more smooth and somewhat more sensitive. I find that I am taking curves at 25 miles an hour over posted speeds versus 15 miles an hour over with the old unit. I have not had a problem adjusting to the new unit and can track down the road and maintain a straight line with about the same imput as with the old unit. I have put about 500 miles on the new unit with a combination of 70 plus miles per hour highway and curvy back country roads.

4-5 bars is the normal operating temperature. The thermostat doesn't open until three bars. Stop worrying!

Scotty mentioned in another post that he didn't like the over-sensitive steering on his new RT and from his description, this is what my 2008 SM5 now feels like.

An alignment and steering sensor adjustment cured 99% of my original problem...and all the wandering. The steering on the RT still seems more responsive than the RS, though, and I worry about increased sensitivity, but until I have experienced the new DPS for myself, it is really nothing but my over-active brain cells that I am having problems with. I do like the Spyders without power assist at speed, however. More assist will take some getting used to.

What is this fan upgrade how do I get it and is it a recall or what. I like anything that will keep it cooler. Is it for the RTS and the RS.

I have a 09 SE GS , live in Jacksonville AL, got the DPS update at Alcoa TN 1.5 hrs while at SITS. Great people.

Got the fan updated in Cartersville GA, 2 hrs, had to holed out for about three weeks, wanted me to leave it for two or three days. Told them I would not do that. They finally made time for me. Great people.

Got my shifter replace in Cullman AL, well pick it up and replaced it my self. Still good people.

For the life of me. I can not under stand why dealers can't do work on the by appointments, like most auto dealers. Why should a rider have travel all over the country just to get warranty work done in a timely manner. I will be so glad when 18 May 2011 gets here, my warranty runs out, then I will be able to go on line, order the part, and but it no my self.

Had to have mine reset after change out for the opposite reason....fool thing went back to trying to jerk the handlebar straight ahead.

I made an appointment with my dealer over 2 weeks ago for today, that was the first date they had available. I asked when I made the appointment if they had the DPS unit in. I was told that they did not have one for the RT they had only received one and they had just sent it back. Today I get to the dealer and they said "oh I don't think we have one for an RT" UPS was unloading when I arrived there and the service guy went out to check to see if one came in on the truck. No luck.

Carlo from BRP told me last month that they ship new units out immediately upon receipt of the old ones and the dealers should receive them in 3 to 5 days. Somebody is not telling the truth here.
