Nancy & I have let a couple of close friends with vast motorcycle experience try it out. One declined. I have also allowed a couple of very close friends to try out my vintage bikes. By the same token I would never ask to ride another's toy, nor will I accept a ride if offered. I usually point out to anyone interested that demo rides are available...and give them my dealer's location.

The motorcycle safety courses I've been to in various states say "do not loan your motorcycle".
And as stated in some of the posts above... liability can be very high if the borrower gets hurt or hurts someone else. /Ken-krb1945
Loaning is one thing...a quick ride around a parking lot while riding with buddies is another. IHMO, I think too many of us are paranoid about the bike...any person with experience on a motorcycle will have more than enough capability to ride a Spyder...if it's auto, it's even easier! I let people ride my car if they need to (like my staff)...they don't take it for a weekend, but for quick runs to get office items and such.
I simply don't worry about it...not a big deal...that's what insurance is for (provided the other person has it as well)...
Does everyone here worry about people walking by your front lawn and breaking their ankle? That's a claim too, if something happens...

Anyone that knows how to ride a motorcycle can take my Spyder for a spin--- anytime--- I've thrown the keys to perfect strangers and told them to take it for a spin.
I'm the same way with any vehicle I've ever owned.
As far as 'you break it you buy it'..... nah---- that is what we have insurance for. If someone wrecks it--- I'll just get it fixed or get another one.

Insurance issue
My understanding is that my insurance won't cover a rider who's not a family member. Might be worth double checking on that.

I agree with Bone here.... I pretty much let anyone try it around the block/neighborhood that wants to.

My insurance policies will cover anyone who uses the vehicle with my permission.

I let my granddaughter drive mine while I followed in the car. She got my dirt bike a few years ago and is very good at riding that. She is 16 and her dad owns a Harley shop so she did a very good job of riding it.

Other than my husband there is only two other people that I would trust to ride my Spyder, both have many MANY years of motorcycling experience with no accidents. I have no problems giving people rides though.

The interesting thing for me is that so far nobody has even asked me this question. I was willing to let the mechanic in Daytona that put on the new taillight lens take it for a spin, as he seemed really interested in doing so, but he declined when I made the offer as he had more work to do.
I let a friend borrow my GSX-R 750 while in the Marines, and he dropped it. Insurance took care of it without any problems at the time.

Only my spouse and myself. Wrote my insurance policy that way.

From some of the responses it is very obvious why insurance rates are what they are. Insurance will take care of it.

Not really a choice in Michigan---- we have no-fault insurance.

My insurance will cover anybody i let ride, But they must have a M/C licence. Like i said before I'll only let my Sons ride. To avoid problems when somebody ask to ride my Spyder i just tell them my insurance only covers me.

They tried to ram that down our throats several years ago and it didn't make it, thank you very much. There are few accidents that are "no-fault", that's a term generated by those at fault. But we now have "mandatory" insurance, yet we still pay for uninsured motorists on our policy...makes a lot of sense.I put over 50,000 miles( more when I was a service manager) a year on 12 different vehicles combined and have never caused an accident, I have been hit by several turkeys that didn't fully understand a red light or stop sign, yet I still have to carry the burden so that they can afford insurance as if they have a right to drive....sorry, I have several copies of the constitution and that's not listed anywhere.
If they allowed you to shoot a$$hole$ that drive ignorantly, or better yet actually make them pass a REAL driving test, everyone would be better off. So if someone crashes one of your vehicles because they are morons...that's "no-fault"? Yours or theirs...but everyone else pays the burden, ain't it grand.
Pretty much the way Health Insurance will go if the pinheads in DC have their way. It's not my fault I don't drive well, or take care of myself, I'm just a poor victim, yeah.. right.

In Jersey a lot of drivers use the 10 second rule at red lights = when it turns red you have 10 seconds more to run it! Stop signs are only put there so when you walk your dog he has something to pee on

No fault insurance has good and bad. It's more expensive, but the medical coverage is awesome.
One bad thing is they put limits on how much you can get in damages (tort reform). While many think tort reform is a good thing--- it sucks when you're on the receiving end and being told your sons life is only worth $400K.
I agree better testing and more experience behind the wheel is a must in all states.

Wife lets me ride it all the time and even take it to Rallies to show everyone the great Spyder products that we have!!!

Hate to be selfish, but those who know how much I care about my spyder shouldnt even think of asking to ride mine. One did ask anyway and hated to be rude, but told him, he would be better off riding at a dealers parking lot. Sorry.

If they have a few years of motorcycling under thier belts and parking lot only! my daughter would like a bike of her own so i may take her to a parking lot and try with me on the back just to be safe. Then if she gets her permit then msf coarse if she does this then i will buy her a spyder if she wants.

Lets see, my mechanic Joe has ridden mine and "Gus" from ESI. That is all. I am not one to loan out my Spyder for someone to take a test ryde on. Thats why the dealers have demo units..LOL
