Talking MY RS 2010 SM5 Quantum Blue (first 32km) :)

My First 32km on the Spyder!
It was pretty cold, but I had to get out for a ryde!!

    Engine:
In traffic, even at 23F (-6C) ambient temperature, the engine heat meter touched the 5 block mark - I looked down to my right, sure enough the fan had kicked in. I then watched it turn off and the meter drop back to 4 bars. On the highway (110km/hr), meter dropped back to three bars on the cluster.

Wow, this machine has serious power, which I think, deserves respect. I will travel lightly on the throttle.

    Handling:
It's different then a motorcycle, that's for darn sure.
Any tips on how YOU push on the opposite (outside in a turn) pegs when in a turn to hold on and keep you up?

Braking: Yeah, they work… and well! Good stopping power.

Style: In a parking lot I caught a glimpse of my reflection ridding in front of a store window. Wow, this thing is futuristic !!!!

Here in Newfoundland, the rain has been coming pretty heavy the last week - yes I said rain, not snow! So, the rain has actually washed away most of the road salt and I was VERY HAPPY about that. Regardless, I got home and decided to wash her anyways (mostly the under belly and the wheels, rear end, etc…). I thought I got some curious and funny looks while riding, and parked at red lights. However, I did get quite a few in the drive way, in the middle of winter, washing down a futuristic three motorcycle. Oh well. he-he.

No photos this time… still waiting for the sun.

As I understand it, I own the FIRST Quantum Blue & 2010 RS Spyder in Newfoundland.

    Thoughts/Tips/Suggestions/Comments?

    Cheers and Ryde Safe!
    Thanks for your time.

You will have to find the method of turning that works for you. The skiers say push down on the outside peg. Racers say shift your weight to the inside of the seat (or off it). Others say to bend your waist and try to kiss your inside knuckle. The bottom line is to find a method to shift a little weight to the inside of the turn. Do what comes naturally. It will feel quite normal in a surprisingly short number of miles. As soon as the weather permits, go somewhere and practice the skills course in your manual, and you'll soon get the hang of it...safely.

be careful in the tight corners, if your not used to it you cross the line. otherwise when you get used to it you should be able to do at least 20+ over and still make a corner.

Take lots of picks, from what i've seen so far the blue is pretty flashy

I agree with Scotty and Ferno on the cornering issues.

For me I like to tuck my inside knee in against the plastic and then lean toward the inside of the turn. This lets me zip through the corners without any worries about coming off the Spyder. However, it may not be the most comfortable position for you.

When the sun comes out you need to find a good place to practice for a while, and then go find some twisties to carve up!
    Very Happy Spyder Ryder!

Sharp, tight, high speed turns to the left are much easier than the right ones.

another thing, pay close attention to your throttle hand making slow turns etc. You might find you put too much pressure on the bar and end up giving fuel when you shouldn't.......

Thanks, everyone, I appreciate your comments!

Well, we are getting a pretty good (bad) snow storm here today, so it's a good thing I went Ryding when I did!

Well, looks like I'll be in my heated garage today and likely most of the weekend, reading up and checking our more on my Spyder!

    Cheers everyone!

    Default Congrats to you groundeffect

Hey Groundeffect ! Awesome ! I couldn't be happier for you. It really is a nice machine IMO. I love my 08 SM5 and love the looks I get when I'm on it. Or when you come out of a store and people are standing around it.... waiting for you like a vulture to roadkill.

Very nice blue color. So glad you got a chance to ride before the snow. Hopefully spring will come early this year.

I also find downshifting a gear on the tight backroad hard turns keeps you more in control! IE 3rd to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to first on a real sharp corner.

Thanks, everyone. I'm very happy to finally have my Spyder!!!

I was just in time for that ryde also, as the snow storm that moved through our region the last two days left a load of the white stuff around the door. So, getting that ryde in will hold me over until it melts away.

Until then, I'll be in my heated garage and learning more about my Spyder!

Cheers guys, and thank you for your comments on this thread!
