Default What would cause this issue with shifting on a '21 RT?

Hi all, a friends RT shifts down at speed, but not with the paddles. The oil has been changed and the bike runs fine. Any advice on what's the possible cause? Thank you.

About that time/vintage, there were a number of Spyders that had a problem with the Left-Hand Control Module causing problems like this... You might want to do a bit of searching and reading to see if this one fits?!

My 14 RT has done that since 2014 when I bought it.... The SE trans ( ie. paddle shifter ) is designed to Downshift if / when the RPM's drop below a designed in amount ...... Mike

So you are saying the machine will auto downshift as is slows, however the paddle downshift does NOT work when is used to manually slow the machine or descending a grade?

The machine will downshift as it slows, but it SHOULD also downshift with the paddle. As Peter said there were some with left hand control module issues.

One way to know if it is an issue with the paddle, do you have a problem shifting to Reverse?

If no problem shifting to reverse, you may be trying to downshift at too high an RPM.

A different take on the question....

Mosess stated "Hi all, a friends RT shifts down at speed, but not with the paddles. The oil has been changed and the bike runs fine. Any advice on what's the possible cause? Thank you. "

I think he meant that it down shifts at a while traveling at a normal speed, where his friend did not slow down and it shifts down by itself. Just my take on the post.

I hope he comes back and clarifies, as I could not figure out what he was saying!

IMHO Mosess Needs to ride that bike to accurately report what the issue is. It's hard enough diagnosing a problem when the actual Operator is telling us, trying to do it Third party ..... well you get my point .....Mike

seaweed you are correct the bike shifts down as it should when slowing down. when trying to shift down with the paddles , It does not work. the oil is new the filters have been replaced.

I know what you mean this is the info I received . the bike is being brought up to Artic adventures today.

It would help everyone A LOT Mosess if you would use 'Reply with Quote' from the bottom right of the particular post you are replying to; or at the very least, identify each poster you are addressing by including their username in the text of your reply, as you've done with Seaweed above and I've done in this post to you ...

When you don't do either, it becomes very confusing for readers, like listening to just one side of a telephone conversation - and that doesn't help you and it frustrates the heck out of everyone else!

So please, have the courtesy to make that little effort to help others help you.

It almost seems to be low on oil. The Hydraulic Control Module in pretty sensitive to oil level..
