To do….or not to do? Should I replace these BEFORE they fail?
2019 F3L. 14,000 miles
Due to the high failure rates of the Park Brake Motor and the Left-Hand Multi-function switch - TSB’s were published highlighting their failures…. Would I be over-reacting to just replace them before failure? I would install them…. cost is $750 for the parts. My thinking is to avoid the inconvenience of the breakdown, towing, trying to find the part, hotel stay, etc.
It’s like: when do you replace an air filter, or a fuel filter……. when the engine fails to operate? I think they call it Preventive Maintenance.
OR: Do I just Buy and new Sea to Sky?

Interesting justification to get a new Sea to Sky.
I hope it works for you.

First, you have to ask yourself, 'What is a high rate of failure?' I can't give you a scientific answer. But my guess is it's probably in the 10% range. That means you have a 90% chance of not having a failure. Nor will replacing it give you a 100% chance of never experiencing a failure.
I'd run with what you've got. But that's me. You should do what makes you feel comfortable.

I don't recall that the "Park Brake motor" has a high failure rate ..... and the lefthand cluster began having failure issues only in the past couple of years ..... which to me means a replacement may be of the generation of High Fail rate .... The ORIGINAL DESS module (08 to 13) had an extremely Low failure rate .... then in 13 some engineer decided to re-invent it ..... and bang, they started failing ..... IMHO, leave well enough alone! .....Mike

You could go with the best of both worlds - buy the parts, replace them if they fail. Of course that leaves open the question - should you buy a complete replacement machine so that, no matter what fails, you have the part?
To each their own level of paranoia I guess....

I'm not sure exactly what the percentage of spyder failures is but they do not have a stellar reputation. I've taken it all in stride and keep my fingers crossed that I don't have a failure. But if I do I'm prepared to make an adventure out of it and see who I'll meet and where it will take me. Just not to the hospital, I hope.

It would be good to know the percentage of failure for the Left Hand Combo Switch and Park brake motors so as to warrant a TSB and a new service part number.

Buy the S2S and tow the F3L behind it. That way if one goes out, you just jump on the other one. Might have a negative effect on fuel mileage. But you'd solve the failure issue.

This is an excellent forum but, very few failures have been reported and considering that percentage wise very few owners are actually on here I would tend to enjoy the ride and repair only when its broken; although that may be inconvenient and more costly.

Have you got all the spare parts, belts, hoses, fuel injectors, plug wires and all the other parts for your car just in case something should break?
Think about it................

A whole lot easier to find parts for a domestic vehicle than a Spyder Dealer.
....
Ok, I’ll ride it until the new ride arrives... Thank you all for your input. Have a great day!

It Happened to me
Speaking as someone that had our '19 RTL switch cluster fail after many intermittent parking brake problems... I might think about replacing it for my own peace of mind.
