So far, this worst of the Midwest storm has missed us. We had some flakes two days ago and some more flakes this AM. The cold air coming behind the front is brutal to us now "climatized" Arkansans. Alaska did not seem so bad when we lived there.

    Exclamation Big storm coming!!!

    .

We are about to get blasted with another (and stronger) snowstorm. Another hour or two and it will be a blizzard here at 5700' in the Sierras. Even the local ski resort is closed for the day. Time to turn on the heat wire on the roof. SOOOO many roof repairs and replacements up here from last year's record snows. Even a few decks ruined from massive falls from the roof buildup. Tile roofs took it the worst.

    Modified snowblower at the ready......

We got the big wind/snow/rainstorm last night. The wind gusts were 65 mph in some places. I did lose power for 24 hours, but I have power now. The power went out early Wednesday morning and come back on around 2:30 PM EST time today. Also, now that storm is behind us, we can look forward to a couple of okay days. There will be just a few snow showers on Thursday with a week clipper system coming through. And Friday is looking pretty nice with a good deal of sunshine.

THEN................. Here we go again! Another storm system - very similar to the one we just had to deal with - will move in on Friday night and last into Sunday. Again, the storm will start with snow on Friday night, which will change to rain on Saturday, before ending up a bit of snow again late Saturday into Sunday. Once again strong winds will be a factor in this next storm. However, this storm will be just a bit weaker than the one we just went through. It will have a little less snow, less rain, and it won't be quite as windy.

On Martin Luther Day (Monday) the weather is looking pretty quiet. But there is a chance that we'll get clipped by a coastal system on Tuesday with some snow. After that, temps will be on the cooler side, something we have not seen much of this winter so far.

Next week is the middle of January. (Off topic; the snowmobile trails in Vermont are still closed due to lack of snow. My sled is getting restless!!!!!!!!!!!)

In post #28 I said we were about to get blasted...... We did!!! 8 to 10" with 12 to 15 " drifts on the lee side of the house. A superior powder day for skiing ..... if you can get there. The road is closed just above us. All schools closed as Reno will shut down. with just a few inches of snow in the valley.

Winter storms have come to the desert today too. It's currently 49 degrees and headed for a high of 56. The overnight low will be a chilly 33 degrees. We had a pretty good thunderstorm pass through between 10 and 11 this morning. Now it's just partly sunny and windy. Steady winds at 15 MPH with gusts to about 25. There is a continued chance for rain off and on all day. Stay safe..... Jim

Here in southern Wisconsin, we got:
    1.) 7" snow Tuesday
    2.) 3" snow Wednesday night
3.) Likely blizzard warnings tomorrow afternoon with 7-12" inch snow forecasted along with winds gusting to 40-50mph
4.) Sun>Thu highs in upper single digits and lows down around -13*
So much for this El Nino winter

In the early morning hours on Wednesday, the house shook due to the high winds, it was very scary, eerie. The winds were very strong, the highest wind gust was 86 MPH. The wind was over the trees, it sounded like a big jet engine. Also, we lost power from 2:30 AM EST Wednesday until Wednesday afternoon @ 2:30 PM EST.

They have issued another HIGH WIND WATCH from 1/11/2024 to 1/13/2024.

The high wind watch is now in effect from Friday evening through Saturday Morning....

What.......... Southeast winds 25 to 35 MPH with gusts 55 to 65 MPH possible. Locally higher gusts possible along the western slopes of the Green Mountains.

Where........ Eastern Chittenden, Eastern Addison, and Eastern Rutland Counties

When......... From late Friday evening through Saturday morning.

Impacts..... Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially high-profile vehicles.

Additional details..... The period of strongest winds is expected to be between midnight and 9 am on Saturday. In addition, given that property and vegetation were impacted by a high wind event just 72 hours prior, the threshold for damages may be lower for this event.

The current temp is 25 degrees and cloudy, and snowing. The 'feels like' temp is 25 degrees.

A lot of us are still picking up from the wicked storm system that came through here the other day with those damaging winds. Power is still out in some places/spots. And now another very similar storm system will be bringing the same kind of weather as the last one.

A weaker clipper system that has been spreading around a few showers this Thursday will be moving out overnight. A bubble of high pressure will build to give us a pretty nice day on Friday. There will be a good deal of sunshine and temps will be seasonable. That will be the calm before the storm.

Then, HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another strong storm system will be moving in on Friday night. Like the last one, it will start with heavy, wet, snow, especially in the higher elevations. The Adirondacks will get hit hardest with 6' or more of that heavy wet snow likely. The valleys will get very little snow, though - just a trace to an inch or two. Again, like the last storm, warm air will be blown in on the strong southeast winds, changing the snow to rain over Saturday morning. Then there may be a transition period with some freezing rain & sleet during the night, especially in the higher elevations.

Once we go from snow to rain early Saturday, there will be just some scattered rain showers throughout the day, rather than the downpours that we got in the last storm. The rain showers will change back to scattered snow showers late in the day and into Sunday as colder air comes in behind the departing system.

But again, the biggest impact from this storm will be from the strong South-East winds, which could gust as high as 70 MPH along the Western slopes of the mountains. Again, power outages are likely. The winds will die down later in the morning on Saturday, then pick up a bit later in the day with a wind shift to the South-West. But the winds won't be as strong later in the day. It will be blustery into Sunday.

Martin Luther King Day on Monday will be quiet with just a lot of clouds around. We might get clipped by a system Tuesday into Wednesday with some snow. Temps will be coming down next week, feeling like mid-January.

    I am OK, safe!

Hopefully, the up North weather improves quickly. Be nice if these snowbirds would go home.

Yesterday, was cool and light rain late in the day / early evening. The light rain has non locals in a panic when driving. 30 mph on roads that are posted 50 mph. Plus these non locals go that speed, essentially side by side, causing all sorts of unneeded traffic issues and hazards with the wet roads and apparent lowered visibility. Regardless wife and I survived our drive to dinner and home last night.

Just checked the weatherwx website, says 72*f currently at 4:30am, and expecting low 80s today, with a light breeze and scattered random light showers.

We did have those high winds and such a few days ago, but paradise weather came in behind it.

If no rain arrives, I should cut the grass. Almost time to throw down a bag of Miloganite and get the lawn ready for 2024.

Seems other areas of North America need to stay warm and be safe.

    .

Prayers for those who are seriously impacted by this series of El Nino related storms . The weather guys are saying we are dead center for another blast on Saturday. I was going to ski today but it's so windy the lifts are already closing. Skiing ( and riding the lifts in 45+MPH) isn't worth it.

Yesterday's storm has moved on to the east and left the desert. Currently it's 48 degrees. The high today will be 58. There are a few very high white clouds in the distance. We are expecting a warming trend and by this time next week we'll be in the low 70s. There is no rain or any storm action in the 10 day forecast. In between rainstorms yesterday I cruised by the swimming pool to see if any of the snowbirds were hearty enough to swim. There was one lone person in the water. One of my buddies that lives here year round! He said the water was fine. Told him he was the only one to think so. It was cold and windy. I came straight home and lit-up the electric fireplace. We actually had a decent Friday and got in on some sunshine for a change. But this was only the calm before the storm. Another storm system will be moving in overnight with the same kind of weather and effects as the storm that just hit us a few days ago.

Clouds will thicken up through the evening. A little before midnight, snow will move in and quickly overspread the area. Winds will be picking up out of the southeast and become very strong, especially along the western slopes of the Green Mountains where, like the last storm, wind gusts could be as high as 70mph. Wind gusts that magnitude could be bring down trees, limbs, branches, and power lines. Power outages are again likely.

As the warmer air comes in overnight, the snow will be changing to rain showers early Saturday. The winds will settle down in the early afternoon, but then shift around to the west-southwest and pick up again, although not nearly as strong as the overnight winds. Colder air will be moving in late Saturday through Sunday on those blustery WNW winds, so Sunday will be a chilly, blustery day with scattered snow showers.

Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday will be a quieter day, but it will be colder. The cold air will stick around through most of the week.

A coastal system may clip us with some snow late Tuesday into Wednesday. And there could be more snow showers again by the end of the week on Friday.

Got a ride to WallyWorld in today after church. High temp of 78*F, but changes are a-coming’. Will be 61*F tomorrow AM, then dropping throughout the day to a low of 43*F before midnight. Then Tuesday AM starts at ~29*F, high of 38*F. So, looks like we’ll be getting two of our ~8 days of winter here shortly!!

...Well folks the Winter Season is here in Indiana. Currently very cold at -4°F with a wind chill of -16°F. Yesterday's high was only 1°F.
I stayed indoors all day. Started planning several riding trips and guessing the best time.
I think mid April or early May would be a good time.

Today's high at 7°F with clouds.
    Low of 1°F.
Just about an inch of snow on the ground.

    Hi Everyone,

It is Monday, and it is starting to feel and look like winter as we head through the rest of the week here in Vermont.

Today the temp is 18 degrees and clear/sunny.

Today will feature daytime highs in the 20's but wind chills in the teens with a mixture of sun and clouds overhead. Tonight, clouds make their resurgence as overnight lows again fall back into the teens.

We will wake up on Tuesday morning with that cloud cover, which will give way to a few snow showers tomorrow as a coastal system tracks to our south & east. The fringe snow showers will amount to a widespread 1-4' of fresh powder with NO damaging wind, mix, or rain. Snow showers subside towards sunset tomorrow evening.

Wednesday and Thursday will be quiet days with some sunny breaks. Then another coastal system may clip us with some snow on Friday into Saturday.

The coldest air of the winter will be moving in for the upcoming weekend, when one of the cities may finally dip into the single digits for the first time this season.

(Off topic; last week, Friday 12th, we lost power from 3:12 A.M EST to Sunday 14, 8:00 AM EST. This was due to the high winds, rain, sleet. We have power now. We are OK and Safe).

Reading the weather posts from y'all reaffirms the reason I chose to live in the desert! Currently it's 63 degrees. The high today will be close to 70 and the overnight low will be 42. There are no clouds or wind. Our slight warming trend continues for the next few days. Yesterday I had a very enjoyable cruise, top down, in my little Mustang. Went through several regional parks seeing lots of picknickers, kayakers, and hikers. People just enjoying our nice winter weather. There was a couple riding a Spyder RT doing the same. We passed each other 4 or 5 times at different places. I was sure tempted to give them the "motorcycle wave". Stay safe (and warm)..... Jim

...Well yesterday was a very nice sunny day but 3°F for the high was really awful. So I just stayed in the warm house.
The wife made a big pot of her 'winter chili' and she still has a delicious recipe. ....
Currently overcast skies and 5°F. We have maybe an inch of snow on the ground.

Today it's scheduled to be sunny and very cold. The TV news people are saying, be careful about the wind chill factor. Check on your family and friends. Spring is coming.
High today of 7°F. Wind Chill makes for -16°F.
Low at 2°F. We are okay here.
Stay Safe and Be Patient. ....

Prayers for everyone who has power issues. ....

Sub-tropical South Texas was anything but that today. Just got in from a 26-mile ryde - temp of 27*F, NNW wind @ 21mph, “feels like” temp of 16*F, overcast skies.
