Rubbed Raw Wiring harness - stuck in gear. Replace it all or fix the rubbing?

2018 F3L with less than 14,300 miles

Dealer tells me that my wiring harness is rubbing raw in one area that they DID find that is causing me a short in my transmission, aka "stuck in gear" for me, while driving. They cannot tell me if there are more problem areas or not as they stopped looking when they found the one damaged piece. They want $1200 to simply repair the damaged area only, or $3000 to replace the entire harness, as they advise I do to ensure that the rest of the harness is in good shape. I am not sure what to do as bike is out of warranty soon...harness is not covered under warranty anyways...

What can possibly have caused this issue on a bike that is garage kept, maintained on schedule, recalls done on time, only driven 3-4K miles per year on highways and state routes (never offroad!)? I cannot believe that this issue is not covered under warranty for normal riding conditions. It is an important part of the bike "running" when you expect it to in traffic. Something so important and vulnerable as the wiring harness should be better quality? better protected? especially since it costs so much to get to it if need be.

I do know some Spyder people with BUDS who work on Spyders...but at this time, I am afraid to pull my bike out of the dealership to take it to someone who charges far less per labor hour than the dealer.

Would you replace the entire harness or just repair the damaged area found (to-date)? If they keep inspecting the harness, my costs go up, up...and they maybe will not find anything else wrong.

It's a big harness. Exactly where is the damage? Can you provide pictures or a better description (eg, length, width, edges torn, etc)?

This damage shouldn't occur but sometimes manufacturing mistakes result in missing retainers, improper routing, etc. Open a case with BRP.

110%, ..... unless YOU removed TY wraps that secured the Harness .... Then MAYBE it wasn't secured when you bought it ????? .....good luck ..... Mike

Case has been opened since June...they just today found this "rubbed raw in a few sections"....and then told me wiring and harness is not covered under warranty.

Depending on which wires are damaged, great care must be taken to repair any wiring that is part of the CANBUS system.

As long as the bare wire is intact. You should be able to repair it quite easily. You probably will not have much luck splicing or re-connecting a broken harness wire. It will most likely fail because it changes the resistance of the wire and the ECM will not like it. But if just the insulation is damaged, that should be a do-oable repair. Not sure why it would cost $1,200.00 to perform this. And again, if they are offering a splice, I would not go there unless there would be no charge if it didn't work.
