As a true believer Pete, you should forthwith buy a EV car, and motorcycle. I really don't believe this thread is gonna convince one person to change their attitude pro or con. Just my opinion, everybody has one.

The difference here is that the ICE replaced the steam engine because it was the better way to go. No one was holding a gun to the Internal Combustion Engine developers. They stood to gain if it worked. And lose big time if it didn't.

EV's are getting shoved down our throats by government edict. They are going to bust your chops if you don't comply. It's socialism. I don't know why we keep calling it Capitalism. Socialism fails every time it's tried. It will fail here too.

If EV's were the better way to go. We wouldn't need government to twist our arms. I think this is a big difference.

Having said this. I own an EV. Mostly because of the instability of liquid fuels artificially created in the last few years. I like my eGolf. It fills a niche for me. But I can afford to have both an ICE and an EV. Not everyone can. Nor should they be forced to buy something that doesn't work for them.

I want to make it clear that this is just my opinion. It's worth just a bit less than what you paid for it.

    Helpful Hint:

I'm hoping in 5 years they have resolved the issue of range with EVs, as well making a base model electric minivan, in which case I might be interested in turning in my 2018 GMC Canyon Duramax and buying the minivan. Until then, I'll stick with the truck. As far as motorcycles, I've got too much invested in customizing my 2014 RT to ever give that up...it gets cremated with me.

I respectfully disagree that government is shoving EVs down our throats, in the US, Europe or India. That's just the direction the world is moving finally (away from a dependency on fossil fuels), for several reasons, not the least of which is to free democracies from a dependency on Russia and China.

By the way, neither democracy or socialism shove anything down anyone's throat - that would be communism and fascism. Socialism is actually the underpinning of democracy. Capitalism is an economic model, not a political one, and I would say our American system is one which tries to balance the excesses of pure Capitalism with a social safety net. Both China and Russia are more capitalistic than the US and Europe, I believe.

Sorry to interupt guys (great debate by the way) but I can't get this damn LK-99 out of my head.I know it may not be feasible but neither was moving out of caves.
Question, if we can levitate stuff at random and create force fields by it's placement etc will there actually be a need for vehicles?
I'm thinking wack on a pair of new Nike Lightfoots and cruise off to wherever. Talk is if a gap is left in an electrical circuit surrounding whatever is being levitated it will fall towards that direction thus creating propulsion.
Now scale that up to move anything in any direction I'm thinking of taking my house with me on holidays to,oh don't know, Antarctica for a bit of ice hockey followed by kite flying on Mt Everest, get my drift?
So eliminates fuel oil batteries tyres etc, which eliminates the need for say 25% of your expenditure . I aint paying local govt rates any more if I'm mobile also no need to buy land to build.
No fencing needed for livestock if it can be used as a forcefield.
Would there even be borders anymore not like you would have to turn up at the airport. If no borders who runs the whole show.Holy crap would we all have to be way more responsible for our actions rather than subcontracting that out to the biggest bomb or bank account.
Screeeech..........(thats my new inbuilt don't go too far or you'll loose them mechanism).
Sure would make looking back seem like a waste of a few centuries.

As I understand the video, LK-99 is claimed to act as a superconductors at ambient temperature and pressure, thus making possible quantum leaps in computing power, thus possibly leading to breakthroughs in quantum physics, thus possibly leading to levitation. Only problem is, it doesn't do any of those things.

BlueKnight, we agree. I see this as a 'common sense' thing. Some do not, and so I'm not here to convince them otherwise.

Another team have just replicated the stuff. This is so in it's infancy that anything could happen. For EV buyers ()this would mean better batteries but hey who's going to need them if you've got what amounts to free energy.

Free energy is not possible. Any energy produced requires some chemical or mechanical reactions and either consumes or converts some substance to a different form.

If free energy were possible, no company or government would create the means to produce it and give it to the public without some compensation which cost more than the energy source it would replace.

That's right. Einstein's theory of relativity still holds true, I believe.

I don't think going any further down this road is appropriate here or would be tolerated by the moderators. But here is a link to a CNET article that details a small amount of the evidence regarding government involvement in this 'Voluntary' transition to EV's.

It's not the use of fossil fuels that has to decrease; it's the burning of them without being able to capture the resulting harmful pollutants before they reach the atmosphere.

We have had over 100 years to solve that problem, without success, so now it's time to shift to clean propulsion and power production technologies. Saying that EVs require more fossil fuels to produce and operate misses the point entirely, that being 'using' fossil fuels to produce another product is not necessarily polluting the atmosphere.
