Default 2014 Spyder broken oil pump gear - separate issue, or just a defect?

Hi all. Has anyone here had to deal with the broken high pressure pump gear? Does anyone know if a separate issue leads to this gear breaking or is it just a defect? At 35k miles mine failed.

It's happened to a very small number of 990 engines. Cause - plastic gear.

Cause -- most likely high RPM operation with cold oil. I suspect this is also why the 1330cc water pumps fail.

Have there been alot of oil pump vane/internals replaced at 35kmiles? If the pump is worn maybe I could bind just enough to crack the gear? I'm going to measure those parts to see, just wondering if these pumps wear do soon. Thanks folks!
