Default BRP VS Utopia backrest What's Better And Why ?

Hey guys, Just like the title says. I want to get a backrest for our 2022 RTL but, I only want to buy it once and Im stuck between the BRP and the Utopia. I want to know what makes you like one better over the other and what are the limitations / adjustment abilities of them both. Do they both have quick removal ability ?

I have had both. Utopia. Why? Because it is adjustable.

Utopia ... - more adjustable for Angle ... height .... lumbar ... it's thinner .... it can lay flat so it's easier for a passenger to get on .... it can have a separate zippered pouch ....and less expensive .... Mike

Does the Utopia have quite a bit of adjustment forwards and backwards?

Instead of putting a bolt in I used a pin like this.

Actually it does if you leave 1 nut off. I can adjust with one hand on the fly.

No,..... 1/4 inch ..... It depends whether you mount the backrest bar in front of the seat pan bracket , or behind it ..... You could also use a 1/4 inch Shim between them. for a larger space , but you would need longer mounting bolts. There isn't much you can do / for to the BRP backrest to change it's position. except fold it down ..... Mike

The BRP backrest locks in place to prevent theft. It also folds down to allow the passenger to get on/off easier. I've had both (on different Spyders) and like the BRP backrest.

Ultimately, it's going to come down to "YOUR" personal preferences.

Also keep in mind that some posters are posting with their experience with the older style spyders and not the 2020+ models. The seats are different.
Such as in Bluknight's post #9, I'm not sure that is possible on the newer spyders but maybe. It's been a while since I installed mine so maybe someone who has done it recently will chime in.

I have the Utopia and love it but have never had the BRP backrest.

I almost forgot, removing the backrest is easy peasy, just pull it up and out, takes like 2 seconds. Putting it back in is just as easy.

There is a simple trick to installing the bracket that goes under the seats. Here is my video for it:

I have a Utopia on my 2021 S2S and like it. Was easy install. It's comfortable and my wife is a small person and says it doesn't bother her. No experience with the BRP.
