Need stronger trunk lid gas strut - any part numbers?
Does anyone have a good part number for a heavier duty trunk lid gas strut for a 2015 Spyder Rt. I even bought a new stock strut and it will not hold up the lid due to extra weight on the lid. Thanks in advance - jwittersheim@cfl.rr.com

there are a couple of threads that have the part # of a generic shock. i don't have it right now. but you can also put one on opposite side to help. i did that just this spring. the shock has probable lost its pressure. just order 2 of them, with the other side of parts that you need to add extra shock. i have the rear show chrome rack on it, and needed that just a little bit extra to keep it up

This is the one I use when I replaced my worn out Strut and it seem much stronger than the OEM one I had. https://www.amazon.com/708300383-Rep.../dp/B01MDPI3O9

Likely best to install two gas springs. The oem plastic mount at the bottom of the gas spring is kind of flimsy. Adding more stress could create issues.
Our Spyder uses a stock gas spring on one side, no trunk rack and the plastic was still bent. I designed and fabricated a doubler to prevent the plastic from failing.

The Link CopperSpyder provided is a great replacement. Stronger than OEM and exact same length. It is even cheaper than OEM by about $20.00 bucks. My two cents.

.
I drilled the mounting ho;e for the OEM gas shock in a slightly different place and it works fine even with the top rack.

This is a great video and all the parts. I added a second strut just like this and it can hold up a rack and full bag with no problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4av0_tQvow&t=193s

Why don’t you just put the extra shock on the other side like many have done.

I added the extra shock and then added fender washers to the shock's contact points to give added support to the plastic mounting positions. I had to do a little trimming on the washers to make them fit perfectly.
