    Engine Oil Level Verification
In order to perform the engine oil level
verification, the engine must be at normal
    operating temperature.
    1. Take a ride of at least 15 km (9 mi).
    2. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
    3. Let the engine idle for 10 minutes.
    4. Stop engine.
    NOTE: Engine oil level verification
must be performed within 2 minutes
    after engine stop.
    5. Open the seat. Refer to OPENING
    THE SEAT inEQUIPMENT.
    6. Unscrew and remove the oil dipstick.
    7. Wipe off the dipstick.
    8. Reinsert and completely screw in
    the dipstick.
    9. Unscrew and remove the dipstick
    again.
    10. Check the oil level on the dipstick.

Exactly- I have never had a vehicle that varied so much if you don’t follow the procedure in your ops manual. Brought mine to the dealer for oil change as part of a 14k inspection and told them to put an extra quart in the frunk for road trip use. I was surprised when my spare quart only had a 1/4 of the bottle left so I checked my oil by the ops manual and you guessed it- overfilled by 3/4 quart.

I only check the oil .. After a normal length ride ... if there isn't an oil puddle under the Spyder, then except for normal amount of oil use ( for V-twin, 1330 don't use oil ) otherwise you are just wasting gas and time ..... good luck .... Mike

Bottom line: recommended to check the oil while hot. As in after a ride. Particulars can be found in the manual. Manual, I don't need no steenkin manual!

The oil tank on my 998 (2012 RTL) has a little sticker that outlines the oil check procedure. Do the rest of you not have such a sticker on your tanks?

Here is a tip to aid seeing the oil on the dipstick: use a UV LED flashlight and check it in a dark or dimly lit area. Most oils show up very well under UV.

I doubt that, although there are not a lot of Lava Bronze, Brown seat 2012 RTL around.

My Pearl White 2013 RT Ltd also has the sticker on the oil reservoir, and I've seen quite a few more V-Twin motored Spyders similarly stickered - none of them Lava Bronze tho?!

That said, my RT-L DID leave the factory with a Brown Seat - maybe that's the common factor?!? But I don't think too many of the other's I've seen were Ltd's, and none of them had a Brown seat, so there goes that theory.....

Just as a quick aside, if anyone wants an almost un-ridden Brown Seat & Pass Backrest off a 2013 RT Ltd, please drop me a PM - cos no further discussion of my 'Brown Seat' will be entered into in this thread!
