BACK UP BRAKE SQUEAK SOLVED .....
this morning backing out of garage i heard that bad brake squeak that we have learned to grow and love
I took a shot that pads were not seperating so i installed two small springs between brake pads on the caliper slide bolts .... so far no squeak and brakes are still functioning perfect ...i'll let you all know how it works out over time .

Can I get a second moton for "genius"

What brilliance of mind.can the spring get in a position to keep the brake from working? If not you need a patent lawyer.

You should sell your Brake Anti-Squeak kit on e-bay for $19.99 !!!

Put some miles on spyder today so far working like a charm been coasting backwards with engine off and I get no squeak and I see no way that the spring will interfere with the brakes at all did a lot of stop and go driving today so far works great I got an asortment pack of springs at home depot for like 6.00 and found two that fit perfect around caliper bolt and they were not too strong to keep pads from working hope my little fix helps all

Brake squeek fix
Was it only your back brake that squealed? Or did you do the spring install on all wheels?
-
Have you ridden with this in heavy rain yet? I am curious as to how it might affect the initial stopping in wet weather. One of the advantages of disk brakes is that they ride on the rotor, so are not easily contaminated or rendered less effective by moisture and crud (i.e., they wipe themselves clean constantly). This may still be close enough to do the job, but it does create a question in my mind. I still may try it for myself. Far less effort than completely removing the brake pads to apply Disk Brake Quiet.

Here is what I do not understand.....Dealer says the squeal is because of high metal content in the pads that is need to stop the spyder due to its weight. A Goldwing weighs in at over 800 pounds and their brakes do not make a sound.....

thanks for input scotty ...yes i have driven in rain and stopping power is great still the spring is very light tension and pads are still touching rotor

Thanks. After I recover enough from next week's surgery to crawl around on the floor again. I may try this. Heck, if it is boring and cold this weekend, I may even get to it sooner.

all knowing master of cycles...
I did it this afternoon, oh wise one. No more school bus sound pushing it out of the garage or in reverse! It was a bit of a shock to have it push so easily, and to roll backward on a slight incline when stopped. I used a couple of 1/2"x1/2"x0.041" springs, stretched slightly since I couldn't find any just a bit longer. I had some thinner gauge springs the right diameter, but they were too long, and were too close to binding if the pads wore out for my comfort. I suppose I could have cut them down, but I preferred the finished ends on the whole springs.
On the minus side, the brake pedal is a little farther down than before, at full engagement. Makes it feel a tiny bit soft, since it is just the back. One additional pump and it is rock solid. Stops just fine, but I think my spring is a little bit strong, and is pushing the piston back a wee bit. 0.020-0.030" wire would have been better, but doesn't appear to be available. A 5/8"x9/16"x0.035" spring is available on the Web, and that might be just the ticket. That one is also available in stainless. I will revisit this fix after my surgery, when I have some slightly softer springs. Meanwhile, it takes the cake! Have yet to test wet weather performance.
I also applied CRC Disk Brake Quiet gel to the rear, cleaned the brake parts and pads, and lubed the appropiate places sparingly with CRC Disk Brake Caliper Grease. Still a tiny bit of typical squeak, possibly from the fronts. No worse than my BMW, not a squeal, just a tiny squeak if the brakes are applied lightly. So quiet I can actually hear the ventilation holes as they approach the pads now. Thanks for giving me the incentive.

I will buy some new springs while I am recovering from my knee surgery, and install them when I can get down that low once again.
How's that? Then again, having the doc install new springs in me could be helpful...

Whew, Scotty, I was concerned. Those springectomies are really tough... I had heard it's best to have those while you're still <<ummm>> a spring chicken.
Good luck on the surgery!

Rear Brake Spring
Every time I parked my in my garage, the next day I would push out before starting and the rear brake would just howl like crazy, I would mess around with the rear brake by hand and some times it appeared to seperate the pads just enough to stop the howling, but would go right back to howling. I went to Home depot and purchased a $3.50 pack of springs, found two that were about the right size, would have to squeeze just alittle to get them in, but went in fine, not to stiff, and not to weak. After the install, like the other fellow showed in his pic, it worked instanley, and been riding for a week with lots of miles and no more rear brake noise, riding or pushing. another in expensive mod (like the truck spring and push button trunk light) that someone came up with that really works, and was nice enough to share it with all of us. Mod dose not effect the rear braking power in any way. My front brakes squeal from time to time. might try that mod on them too??........anyway thanks.
