Changing Fuel filter - what tupperware needs to be removed?
Good day Gentleman,
I'm planning on changing the fuel filter on the 2014 RTS. A question :
What tupperwhere needs to be removed?? I've probably seen it in my adventures into the 's but I can't remember. I'll just buy a filter locally and I have the special clamps.
Thanks all. Lew L

Left side. Check out Cheap Cycle Parts schematic for your bikes year and model and it will show you where your filter is hiding.

On my 2014 RTS, The fuel filter is behind the frame by where the oil filter is.

fuel filter location?????
As I'm preparing to do the HMC filter , I was going to R/r the fuel filter. It may appear to be on the right in the schematic but is not on the right side( maybe I need to clean my glasses). I'll be pulling the left side tupperware tomorrow. Hope the fuel filter will show it self.

Check around the 41 minute mark for the fuel filter change. Its behind the frame. Same side as the HCM.

Remember, Left and Right as you sit on the bike. Right side. You must remove the Right top side panel and rear side panel.

Well ----- all done three filters replaced and different oil used. Fuel, trans, oil filters really aren't that hard ( if you know where to find them). save a lot of money by DYI.. BUT--- how much would a dealer charge to r and r those 3 filters????????

Having DIY'ed my 56K service I will do it all again at 84K except the plugs; they're a PITA and I will probably stretch them because I used Ron's iridium ones. I just did things at my leisure over a couple of days.

Would say over 500 bucks to do all those filters by a dealer.
I have done all mine filters so far except for the plugs. Hope I never have to either.

One question on the fuel filter, does one need to use the factory type clamps or can I use screw clamps instead?

I prefer to use the Oetiker clamps but you must have the proper size and the special Oetiker clamp pliers to do the job correctly. If you choose to use screw type clamps go to an auto parts store and get fuel injection system clamps.

Those should do the job. You don't want to use clamps that dig into the hose.

Do you remember what size clamps for the fuel filter?
And, how do these differ from pex clamps and tool used in plumbing, do you know?

Pete, I'm sorry, I don't remember the clamp size or whether they are like pex clamps because my house is all copper plumbing. I do remember that the fuel filter and two clamps came in a pkg from Cheap Cycle Parts when they were in business and the three piece set was cheaper than buying three pieces individually. Look at reference no 27 in this link and you can see it's cheaper than the three pieces individually: https://www.canamoemparts.com/oempar...a4/fuel-system.

I use Oetiker clamps also, but I do not have that special tool. I use an end cutter, but don't apply enough pressure to cut the clamp (it takes a lot of pressure to cut those clamps) never had an issue with them leaking.

Yeah it takes really strong hands to cut those off using hand tools. I've had to use a Dremel with a cutting wheel in the past.
