On the GS/RS/RSS/ST it is much easier than other models. can be done with just removing the two upper side panel (the top one helps too) and disconnecting the vent hose and then releasing the clips around the box. You can then remove the top part to get to the filter. There may be a zip to cut and some wiring to move a bit and it will take a shove and tug to get it out.

I did it on my 09 and your 12 should be exactly the same. Everything changed in 13.
It's been so long ago and memories fade. You need to take panels off both sides. Unsnap the spring clips all the way around holding the top of the breather box on. I believe there is a hose that needs to be disconnected as well. Then you have figure out how the maneuver the breather box top out in the tight space. It does come out. Don't remember which side. I got the replacement filter at my local NAPA dealer. There will be some oil in the breather box too. Clean that all out.
I have not looked but there should be a detail procedure in the service manual. If you don't have one. A digital version is not very expensive.

Although a few folks here say K & N filters are JUNK …. I have used them on every veh. I have owned in the past 60 years …… good luck …. Mike
