Default suggestions for a secure mount on rear rack

I'm attempting to mount a rear rack on a 2015 F3's rear backrest post. I'm using leftover Harley chrome post mounts on the backrest. I want to add support via 5/16" stainless steel rods pushing up on the rack. I have a mount location on the F3's but using hose clamps to secure the ss 5/16" post to the rack isn't adequate. anyone have any ideas--description of a sold secure bracket I could use? I plan on carrying a 15 lb small suitcase on the rear rack.
    Thanks,

Too Late--I'm committed to a successful installation.........Plus I can't find a compatible rack for a 2015 f3's that has a passenger backrest. Do you know of any in Utah--Pete ??

    Wildrice,
I have that rack mounted on the backrest the same way without any supports. I have a topcase mounted to it and I carry more than 15# and I have no problems.

Sorry, I don't. But I haven't looked for one either. Good luck.

Wow---I wasn't sure the backrest posts could handle it but your rack is mounted higher than mine which places more stress on the passenger backrest--yet you don't have any problems. I'll consider that after I fail to find a suitable bracket to secure the stainless steel post to the rack. Thanks again.

I have looked--google searched--zero results with the passenger backrest on the F3's Spyder. Pete--You just don't appreciate a "Work of Art" :-)

Ah, got it. Where does your support strut attach at the top and bottom?

For these kinds of projects, I favor using aluminum because it comes in a variety of forms and is very easy to work with. I think it would make for a cleaner stronger installation.

I would use some 1/4" x 1" angle aluminum instead of the SS strut. That will give you a flat surface to flat surface interface at the rack enabling you to bolt (1/4-20 SS screw with nylon insert locking nut) the strut to the rack. I'm not sure how you would secure the bike end of the strut, but aluminum is easy enough to find and work with that I'm sure you can figure something out.

I had to mount it high and angled down slightly so I can open the top case.
Think about the pressure the passenger puts against the backrest, that's much greater than the 15+ pounds you want to put on your rack.
Trust me, it's no problem! We've used ours on an off for 2 years and it works great.

    Those only work with the F3T & F3 Limited. I have a 2015 F3's.

Thanks for the tip but I only want to use the rack when I need to carry a small suitcase or maybe bungee a 12 pack--groceries back from the grocery store, etc. The majority of the time the rack will be empty thus appearance has a value to me. I like the look of my completed rear rack project--it is very sturdy.
