    Of course he had a religion. It may not have been an off the shelf version with a place to meet. But everyone lives by some kind of ideology. Though they may be able to present a defense for it, they cannot prove it to be true. Therefore it is faith based, which is the underlying definition for religion. Even Atheists, whether they admit it or not, are religious. They BELIEVE there is no god, which they adhere to 'religiously'. They have great faith that they are correct. Enough faith to base their eternity on it.
