Laser alignment question
After I install the new rear tire on my wife's F3, I plan to get a laser alignment. Do they set the belt tension as part of the alignment? I don't want to set belt tension before the alignment if they have to align the rear wheel (and, by doing so, change the belt tension) We've read great reviews about laser alignments and hope a difference is felt (as it was with the sway bar).

Answer
We do. The rear wheel and belt are critical to an alignment.

So, I should just install the rear wheel, guesstimate belt tension and take an easy drive to the shop for an alignment. When they're finished, we will have a proper alignment and correct belt tension. Good to know. Thanks.

Watch them
A good shop will let you watch, ask questions, learn stuff. A Spyder is a tricycle. All three wheels need to be checked , and aligned, if needed. Belt tension and rear wheel alignment are critical to a proper alignment. Air pressure, as well. If they can’t do it, find another shop that uses the Rolo laser alignment system.

I plan to travel to Americas Motorsports in Dickson, TN. I'll call them before the alignment in the spring. Hopefully, they're one of the "good" ones.

I would first check with Ann or Joe at Squared Away to see if they will be in your area next spring as they are the NO 1 in laser alignments and if done by them you will know it has been done RIGHT.They travel all accross the country doing alignments and would be worth your while even if you have to travel a little further to get to them.
Good Luck

Are you doing the rear tire installation? Or is a shop doing it? If the rear tire was wearing evenly before, then most likely it was 'aligned' properly to begin with and when the shop (or you) do the rear tire swap (if done properly) the wheel alignment and belt tension should be right where it was before dismounting the wheel.
Laser alignment is of the front wheels. Maybe Joe Meyer can clarify this, but I believe the actual alignment they do is of the front wheels only. Not to say they don't check to make sure the belt is tracking okay on the rear wheel before doing the front wheel alignment, but they are two different things.
I hope this answers the question you seem to be asking.
Joe Meyer is the expert; whatever he says, believe it.
