    Default AMMUNITION

I guess this is about as off-topic as it can get.

    Question is this:
Do any of y'all reload your own shotshells? If you do, and have reloaded RIO hulls, is there a substitute for the Rio 209 primer? I have Winchester 209 primers, but they are smaller than the rio 209 and fall out. I'm hoping to be able to purchase a substitute from my local gun shop

    Thanks for your help.

I'm gonna answer my own question.

I did a bit of digging and learned this: There ain't no substitute. Rio 209 primers are .245" o.d. while all the commonly available primers are .241" to .243" o.d., Winchester 209 being .242" o.d.

Conclusion: If I want to use all of my Rio hulls I need to order Rio primers.

    Well, alrighty then.

I'll ask a question: Why use a hull that takes a non-standard primer?
I loaded my own shotshells (12 & 20 gauge) for years. I always used either Winchester or Remington Hulls, CCI primers, and I actually have forgotten about the wads...
But I was always loading pretty light stuff. We shot a little bit of trap each Summer, and every once in a while I'd take my 20 gauge 870 LW for a walk in the squirrel woods.

I kind of figured that also.
But I wasn't sure if they offered some other attribute (Besides quantity ); that made them desirable.

Gee, if I had known about attractive hulls, I would not have gone with a 9mm and ammo from Wallyworld.

Here's the deal on Rio primers:

If I order the primers and pay the hazmat fee, I will have invested more in the primers alone than if I purchase factory loaded shells. So, I will be tossing a bunch of beautiful blue with silver lettering Rio hulls.

    End of story.
