    Default Downshifting issue

2012 RT SE5, was dying at stop lights frequently, I put in some Seafoam, it does it less often, but a new problem has popped up. If I'm cruising along in 5th gear and come to abrupt stop it only shifts down to second. If I'm going slowly in 2nd or 3rd and stop or slow way down it shifts down to first. I notice that when stopping aggressively from 5th when it gets down to 2nd it feels like and watching the tach it looks like it's going to stall, drops down to 600 rpm and then catches itself, but won't shift into first. If i give it some gas and then roll off the throttle it'll shift into first.
    Ant ideas?

Bob. Have you checked the vacuum lines? Have they ever been replaced? They are certainly the primary culprit for all this rough idle and almost stalling issue. Would have some effect on the Auto downshift.

If memory serves me there were issues with the throttle bodies on the RT's starting in 2010 and running thru 2011 for sure and I think into 2012. Check with your dealer to see if there is a "service bulletin" for yours....

EDIT: removed the part about the vacuum lines! ;-)

Fix the engine idle problem and the downshift problem will go away.

    Put on new MAP hoses.
While you're in there. Inspect the intake flange rubbers for cracks.
Still not fixed. Test the purge valve by plugging it temporarily.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get to the vacuum lines before my rotator cuff surgery. I didn't even think about that. Thanks for the responses.

Surgery got put off due to cardiac issues so I tore into the vacuum lines. Rear one is easy to replace, front one is barely visible. Any advice on how to access it? Looks like if I take off the "adapter as Can Am calls it I might be able to get to it easier. Any tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks

What a PITA to get to the front hose, needed another elbow in my arm. Finally got to where I could get a hold of it and it broke off right at the stub on the housing. Looked in pretty bad shape. Hopefully that'll fix it. Hemostat forceps came in mighty handy.

Thanks, as it turns out the cardiac problems that prevented me from having rotator cuff surgery were unfounded. It took 2 stress tests, the last one was the Nuclear Cardiolite where they inject a dye into your blood stream and watch your heart at rest and under stress. Seems I'm not gonna keel over right away so I got some more projects done. New surgery scheduled for Oct 5th.
