    Default Throttlemeister and HB Vibration

    Those of you that have the throttlemesiter throttle lock, does it eliminate the handlebar vibration and the hand numbness? Also, would the "heavy" version be better for that problem then the "standard"?

    There are many threads on this if you put throttlemeister in the search, but I will give you a quick answer. I have the Throttlemeister heavy. I love it. I never noticed a lot of vibration prior to using it so I can't answer regarding that. As far as the numbness, I found for me it was my riding position and I had so much of my body weight on my arms, wrists and hands. Once I got the NoMagicNeon handlebar risers with my BRP 1 inch which I already had prior. Once I got those, all pain and numbness went away.

    I don't have the Throttlemeister, but I did do the No Magic Neon risers and I love the ride. All the pain I was getting in my right shoulder is totally gone. I have some vibrations (the "v-twin tingle") in the grips, but I plan on doing Dudley's "BBs in the handlebar solution...which I hear from other people (even on other cycles) works very well.

    Number One: 2008 Yellow GS SM5. I love my Spyder.

    TM should help a little with the vibe as it adds bar end weight. The HB version is too big for my taste (does not look it belong on a ). As for the numbness, relax your grip. As others suggested, riser and positioning helps but I choose not to do any and just relaxing the grip.

    Thanks for the info. It's been helpful. I think I'm gonna give the TM a try, but can't yet decide whether the "heavy" or "standard" version is best. Something tells me that the heavier the weight the less vibration and numbness. I'm I wrong about that? Certainly, looks are important, but at this point, I can't ride for more than 15 straight minutes without the numbness creeping in.

    You are right in that the heavier weight will help to dampen those vibrations more than the standard one.

    When talking about any kind of bar end weight,heavier will always eliminate more vibration than lighter.
    If you do the BB's in the bars, get a larger size shot. If you search on that topic you will find that there is a hole in the handlebars that will allow them to short a switch (I don't remember which one). www.barsnake.com makes a rubber handlebar insert specifically designed to reduce vibration. You can also get other grips that have foam or gel that will dampen vibration or get "grip puppies" that are foam covers to go over the stock grips. Gloves with foam or gel in the palms can help.
    All that said. If you are having pain and numbness after only 15 minutes, one of two things is going on. 1) Your handlebars vibrate way more than is normal. Try another Spyder and see. OR 2) You have personal issues of wrist, hand, arm or shoulder damage and/or positioning. Risers are one of the ways many people have taken the weight off the front of their body. Road pegs and/or floorboards are also sometimes helpful. This is all very personal based on the size of your various body parts in relation to the Spyder parts. In general you want a seating position that allows you to grasp the handlbars without placing any significant portion of your weight on your hands/wrists and without causing your wrists to be in a bent position. People with carpal tunnel syndrome and other types of repetitive motion injuries are particularily prone to the rapid onset of pain and numbness your are describing.     I found the more air I put in the tires the more vibration I get. At 20/30 it is pretty bad. Almost don't notice it at 16/26.

    throttlemeister works well for me... vibrations are pretty much a thing of the past....i just can't get it adjusted properly... its still not locking the trottle completely ... ideas?

    Needs to be slightly closer to the grip. Readjust!

    Yeah, I'm thinking I should have gotten the 3 or 4 inch riser rather than the 1. That might make a big difference.

    I had the BRP 1" and got a sharp pain in my right shoulder after 1/2 hour or so.

    I installed the NMN 3" risers and voila...no more pain...ever.

    Number One: 2008 Yellow GS SM5. I love my Spyder.

    Instead of moving or readjusting the throttlemeister, you can move the whole control more up against the throttlemeister - just loosen the 2 screws on the back of the housing that holds the kill switch and apply outward pressrue - then re-tighten and test it out.

    I LOVE my throttlemeister - went with the heavy and they look great.

    They do cut down on vibrations, as do grip puppies and bar-snake - but the best thing the TM does for you is allows you to relax your right hand - even rest it on your leg every now and then.

    Prior to the TM I could only ride for about 1/2 hour at a time----- now 4 hour jaunts are not a problem!

    Never had a vibration problem....I'm at 16/22. I also wear gel gloves.

    The TM is great...didn't get the heavy as I don't like how it sticks out...both will decrease vibration.

    As far as tire pressure, it's true that if you drop it down a little, you put more rubber on the ground and will have more of a dampening effect.

    I've been at 20/30 for a little while when I found out the pressure was basically non-existent after service, but I have backed it off to 18/28 and it is smoother...quite a difference...

    Other than that, have 1" BRP risers and no real issues...I'm pretty comfortable on 1.5 hr. rides...the TM gives your hand a break and you should be shifting here and there to reduce postural faults anyway...

    Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I think I'll give 'em a try, probably go with the standard weight and see how that does. How difficult are they to put on? I've got the stock handle grips.

    They are easy to put on...but for the record, I was getting service done when I got them in, so I had the dealership put them on...didn't take them too long...the instructions are pretty clear...you'll love them! I got the black powdercoat whatever it is...goes well with the bike colors...
