Another Sticking Handgrip - works fine with no end caps! Solutions?

2013 Spyder ST-S


So, read all the threads, tried all the tricks

Totally apart now after replacing a grip and throttle sticking.


No have not started the bike since, is that the issue? Does it magically reset itself when started?


With it totally apart, no start/cruise/hazard switch, no end cap, no end spring...it twist fine... and snaps back. What the heck?

As soon as I add the end spring and cap it binds up. (lightly tightened)

plenty of room between switch housing. Plenty of room to cup holder. End cap not too tight.

Have heated grips but don’t see anything binding and never an issue before.


So will it simply clear when I start the bike? If so, why?

from the explanation it would seem to be in the end pieces. You should have a bushing end spring and the end cap and holding screw. Something is not lining up or putting pressuer to one side causing the tube to dray or bind. Hard to say sight unseen.

..... the screw at the cap is a bit sensitive to the amount of pressure it provides ..... Mine was too tight ( after I had removed the spring inside ) and it would prevent the throttle from completely returning to OFF .... I played with it and now it's fine .....I see you have checked this so I have nothing now >>>> sorry .... Mike

Ill have to make sure they are extra clean, then reinstall and not tighten too much and try again.

Make sure you don't have anything mounted on the handlebars that might be squeezing them. I had one of those RAM hose clamp mounts to hold my phone and I really tightened it down snug. Went for a ride and the throttle wouldn't return when released - that really got my attention! I backed off the hose clamp a bit and all was well.
