That, to me, doesn't seem like a typo. It had to be intentionally removed... it was in the middle of the list of 5-6 things... at least that's my convoluted thoughts on this.

However, that doesn't explain why 2009 models are still in the recall list, either.

Interesting point. We do know that some 2009 models had the old GPS don't we?

I don't think it's that the newer ones have different software - because the recall sounds like they had to write the code and test it.

Glad they are doing something about it. I'll wait to my extra tire comes in and then go get it done.

Agreed. We can speculate and speculate... won't change anything... but it sure is fun!

"Bombardier is recalling 9,932 model year 2008-2009 Can-Am Spyder Roadsters..."

    So...does 9,932 really mean 11,288?

It also states that the 9932 are only the ones in the US - as obviously this recall is only in the US (NHTSA is US).

So I wonder what (if anything) BRP is going to do for the rest of the world?

    Ha!

    Are you kidding, Scotty?

I once tried to buy two brand new Hindle exhausts for $44, figuring BRP would just add on $1,356 anyhow.

Of course, that price was before the 10% (or 1,366%) discount...

It's about time is all I can say. Mine will be going into the shop sometime in mid to late July anyway for it's 15K service, rear tire change, and I guess this recall issue as well. I have been having difficulty with my steering for about 6 1/2 months now.

I'm not confident that this will really address any of the steering issues. It sounds like an end run to avoid riders noticing them to me. The root cause(s) will still remain...like bad signals on the CANBUS. It may reduce the symptoms, but it doesn't sound like a cure.

Where is the list of VIN numbers affected?

As far as a fix...if they have a recall, it HAS to fix the problem...otherwise, they're gonna get their pants sued off!

They don't actually list the VIN's - only the models.... in here:

    http://nhthqnwws111.odi.nhtsa.dot.go...9V162-3760.pdf

You are correct that now that this is all on paper from the NHTSA - it legally means they are aware of the problem. One must certainly question some of the accidents (the guy that got really banged up and the unfortunate death of the woman from Texas).

This is a good example of a system (NHTSA reporting) that works well. Many of us with steering problems took the time to report them - and it's very satisfying to see something being done! I know I filed mine with both the US and Canadian officials. Steering failure is too serious an issue to let slip by!

I'm just wondering how long it's going to take to notify everyone. Based on how long it takes an owner's card I,m not going to hold my breath.

They have a short window of time to notify owners - or they can get in pretty big trouble. Once you receive your notice, the liability on their part is reduced because you have been told of the potential problem.

I'd like to get serious for a moment.

I checked the pdf file list of models affected and my Spyder is on the list. I bought my Spyder used. I did register as an "owner" on the BRP Spyder website. I have no idea how "official" that is. In reality my dealer knows I own one but probably not BRP. I figure I'm unlikely to be sent a notification card from anyone about this recall.

I called my dealer today because I have my 3000mile service coming up next week. I told them about this recal. They haven't heard a thing about it. Their theory is that when they plug my Spyder into the BUDDS system that any pertinent data will come up. What I will do is bring a copy of that pdf file that has the list of models with me to that service appointment.

Does anyone know of a way to get my name on BRP's list of Spyder owners so I will receive notification directly from BRP about significant service recalls or procedures?

Will plugging my Spyder into the BUDDS system bring up the recall regarding power steering? What do I do if the recall doesn't pop up?

Another thing though maybe not relevant is that my Spyder will be the first 3000 mile service that this dealership has performed. How do I get a list of exactly what should be perfomed in this service? Is it in the Owner's Manual (which is in the Spyder trunk which is why I ask)?

TIA for any help that points me in the right direction.

Don't you mean increase in coverage?
just to increase the premium won't get you much, however more coverage will indeed increase your premium.

They should be checking VIN # registrations with the state to contact the current owners of the units affected. You should have no problem recieving the recall notice if your unit is property registered in your name in the state you live in.

As long as the spyder is legally registered to you and your dealer has you listed as the owner of that VIN number for all and any work you are okay. It will be in the computer that it needs to be in. Do not worry too much about the BRP SpyderRyder website, that does not have anything to do with the work on your spyder.

To answer your other question, yes, there is a graph of required service on the spyder for each service check in your owners manual, in the trunk

There is an ownership transfer form in the back of your Operator's Guide. Just fill it in and follow the directions given.
