Newby and RT cruise control

When I cancel cruise control either via touching the brake pedal on shutting off cruise, my 2015 RT decelerates very noticeably. Is this “normal” for these machines?

It would do that if you aren’t giving it any throttle. I always use the brake to disengage it, I always leave it in the On position so I only have to set or resume to cruise again.

I roll on the throttle just until I can tell there is a little load on the engine before I tap the brake pedal. I learned pretty quickly that my copilot didn't appreciate the sudden deceleration that occurred if I didn't. It does make a smoother ride for the passenger if you do that consistently.

I find that I use the brakes very little on my RT.
The transmission downshifting and engine compression slows it down rather quickly.

You DO need to get in the habit of watching your mirrors for tail-gaters though........and tap the pedal so that the brake lights come on.

I agree with Ann, no need to turn it off! Use the brake.

+1.......and yes, a very noticible deceleration. Be sure to check your mirrors before deceleration.

I'm pretty "anal" about switching it off...
But I roll the throttle on, as I'm thumbing the button: it's a dance that you can quickly learn!

Curious as to why you always shut it off? If I turn mine off it likely wasn’t intentional.

I leave mine on constantly. That way the cluster reads "Cruise On" which I take as a directive.

As I said: I'm anal about shutting things off; that aren't being used.
It's just how I roll!

I turn mine off everytime because I have a bad habit of accelerating while the cruise is on and then forgetting that it is set and when I decelerate, expecting it to slow down, it keeps going and I have to deactivate it quicker than I was expecting to

Thought I would add this paragraph from the Do's and Do Not's for New Spyder Owners thread:

Cruise Control Hint:
When disengaging the cruise control the Spyder makes an abrupt slow down.
To eliminate this, slightly "roll-on" the throttle (as if slightly accelerating) before tapping the brakes or switching-off the cruise.
When doing so, the cruise control will disengage smoothly without any jerking motion of a slow down.
Practice this a couple times until you see how easy it is to solve this problem.

(As Bob mentioned, the dance is easy to learn after a few times.)

Yup, normal. When I go to turn the cruise off, I press down on the button and then tap the brake at the same time....makes a nice transition without the harsh deceleration.

Yes. One reason is the engine has no flywheel so there is not a great amount of rotating mass keep the engine spinning when the cruise is turned off, or when the throttle is turned off quickly.

I leave mine on all the time. Disengage with the brake or by shifting (I think! Can't remember nuthin any more! )

I accelerate with the cruise on all the time but I use the up button on the cruise instead of the throttle.

Throw me on the pile that leaves CC on all the time and kills it with the brake pedal. If you want to kill the CC wthout rapid deceleration just roll on some throttle before nudging the brake. With practice you'll learn how much throttle you'll have to roll on for a given speed.

I leave mine on all of time also and just hit set when I want to use it. One thing I wish it had was a "Cancel" button like a car. No biggie to hit the brake pedal or turn the cruise off but a way to cancel by the button would be nice.

You turn it OFF and then immediately back ON. Of course, you lose the setting when you do that.

Mine stays ON all the time.
