Default A lot of variables in there, but...

...here's a comparison of helmets by weight that might give you a start on your quest:

Web Bike World is a great place to start. But there are so many variables in helmets, it takes some effort to get the right one. May I encourage you that the quest is well worth the effort. A properly fit helmet is amazing.

If you wear a Medium or Large size it can be a bit easier as most helmet companies use the same shell for both of these sizes. Some helmets come in only 2 shell sizes. That's where the term 'Bubble Head' comes from. They will typically use the same shell for sizes XS to Medium or Large. And another shell size from Large or XL to 3XL depending on how big they go. So if you get an XS from this company. You may actually be wearing a size Large helmet. Same with getting a size Large. You might be wearing a 3XL with more padding.

The other end of the spectrum is with the high-end helmets like Arai. They have a different shell for every size except the Medium and Large which use the same shell with slightly different padding thickness. That is one big reason why high-end helmets cost more. They usually use better components, have a better design and tend to last longer as well.

Because of these variables. Weight can be tricky if you can't get the weight of the exact helmet model and size that you plan to purchase. Just because Brand A's medium helmet is lighter than Brand B's helmet does not mean that all sizes and models of Brand A's helmets will be lighter than the comparable Brand B.

Then, when you get all of this worked out and you decide which helmet you want. What if that shell does not match your head shape? You're back to square 1!. And at this point many just give up and buy something.

I highly recommend finding the correct shell shape first. There are 3 basic head shapes (just like Goldie-Locks and the 3 bears). There is Round (basketball), Oval (football) and intermediate. But unlike the story of the 3 bears, helmet manufactures vary within these basic categories of head shape. This is where Web Bike World really shines. They give great detail to head shape. And well they should. You don't want a 'C' width shoe on a Triple E foot. And neither do you want to be wearing an Oval helmet if you have a round head. But believe me. It happens all the time.

Proper helmet fit is lost on over 70% of non-professional riders. Most riders simply will not wear a properly fitted helmet. And it is a real shame.

I have a HJC and Nonlan Flip helmets but the Bell Mag Sena Helmet is my favor. I do use Sena so it really works great for me. They have the sun shield and are a light weight helmet and price is pretty good. Here are two of them.

If you are purchasing any SENA Dave's is the place to call. You may be able to purchase the Bell Mag Sena Helmet from him. SENA Bluetooth really works great.

I went from a Gmax to a HJC myself after trying on many helmets. The headshape is really key to comfort. Once you have that, you can go to websites like Revzilla and sort by type there.

Do you have a budget? Have you worn full helmets before (for quiet, they are the only ones to consider)?

I just purchased a KLIM TK1200 flip up. Crazy light weight. Great fit, SENA fits perfectly. Sizing is the key to any helmet. That and budget. I was hesitant on the fit, because of the price. Dealer ordered three different sizes for me. Said she would send back the ones I don't want. No one was discounting the helmet anywhere, she did. Very happy with the helmet. Tom

When I purchased my Spyder, I was recommended to buy the Scorpion EXO-GT920 Modular Helmet. At the time I purchased the Spyder I was told it was the hottest selling helmet at that dealership, I absolutely love it and I am so glad I went with a Modular helmet so I can just lift up and drink water, coffee or whatever without taking my helmet off, it's around 3.5 lbs. but light for a modular. I love it!! Good luck.
