    Lightbulb Rear Tire Wear

    Hello Everyone,

I just have removed my rear tire on my Spyder RT Limited 2015. I am going to be replacing with a new tire. I wanted to post this pictures to see what you guys thought of why the tire was worn in the middle. What could cause this? Over pressure, under pressure, etc. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I have 12,000 miles on the bike.

    Normal for stock tire

Can try dropping the Air pressure a bit too?

You got more miles out of that stock Kenda than most people do. Center tire wear is normal on those. Next time, replace the tire before it gets this worn, for safety reasons.

A little more worn than most I have seen. Typical for Kenda. The cause is "ballooning" from the tire heating up and going down the road.

I have been running my latest versions at 26# instead of the 28# recommendations. My tire wear is a bit less. I currently get about 15,000 before they need changing.

    Unhappy

Badly worn in the center. Hope your going to replace with a car tire like a General Alitmax, or any of the other car tires that have been suggested on this site. All are better than the stock Kenda. Tire pressure in the vicinity of 20 psI for one up ryding.

Do you know what the tire pressure was on that worn out tire??? Cause: over pressure, cheap OEM tire. TOO many burnouts

Good luck with your new tire.

Mine did that at 7K. Junk tires. Go to the tire board to look at what everyone else has recommended. I did and saved 50.00 to what the dealer wanted and have 15K on the tire and still looks like new. Oh ya, I also pull a camping trailer, so will NEVER go back to Kendas.
Wonder how many failures Kendas have had and not reported also.

Some of us are stuck with a dealer that will not budge from the BRP line that Kendas are the ONLY tires for the Spyder.

I am stuck, stuck, stuck with the brand until I leave Alaska.

I will say, 140,000 total accumulated Spyder miles. Never a tire failure. 20,000 miles for fronts and 12,000 to 15,000 for the rears.

One exception: the "softer" compound on the 2014's. I got 8,900 miles out of that rear tire.

Is your bike lighter on the rear tire than an RT would be? Just curious whether that has a bearing on wear and tire pressure...

You could try a car tire on the rear. I’m running a 215/60R15 General Altimax RT43 for 13,000 miles at 22 psi and it’s got 8/32 of tread left.

Default Well it looks like time to order some more Kumhos

Just looked at the wifes F3T with General Altimax and only put it on last August. General18.5.jpg

Tire manufacturer says "Replace Tire" and has even wear but only got 18,500 miles from this one at 24-25 psi... usually get about 25,000 from the Kumhos on our RT.

I will never put on another Kumho again. I could not stand it. The rubber was too hard and it would not stick to the road. Took it off at about 10,000 miles. It was not worn out. Just hated it. I was much happier with the Yokohama I replaced it with. But if you are happy with the Kumhos so be it.

What size and model are you running Billy? Always ready to try something new. Are you running the Yoko Avid Touring in the 215/60R15 size? What is your wear life thus far.

I know its hard to compare your wear on your F3 and how you ride, with the wear we get in warmer climates, but always interested in others experiences.. Price is right!

I am also running the General Altimax RT 43 Tire( Size: 215/60 R15) on my 2014RTSS-E6. And running 26 PSI.

The General Altimax RT 43 was replaced at 5,824 miles. I have 18,000+ miles on the General Tire, and still have a lot of tread left.

Here is a picture of my General Altimax RT 43: New Rear General ALtimax RT 43 Tire 001.jpg.

For sure it is, after all I have nothing back there but the oem rack..but do ryde with the backrest and wife alot. RT does have all the bag and baggage back there so brakes and tires do go faster for the RT's.

Default Hi Deanna - Do you have a current pic of your tire, or a tread measurement?

Quote " The General Altimax RT 43 was replaced at 5,824 miles. I have 18,000+ miles on the General Tire, and still have a lot of tread left. "

Here is a picture of my General Altimax RT 43: . The pic says "New Rear General Altimax RT43"

Our Generals also looked like this when new, but the F3T has about 2,000 miles more life to get down to 2/32nds from the original 11/32, while my RT has just 5600 miles used in

getting down to the 7.5/32nds mark.... so it looks like both will get to around 20,000 miles for our roads and type of ryding. YMMV. Not bad mileage and certainly much better than the OEMS for us.

The Yokohama I installed was a S Drive 205 55/15. It will not last as long as a Kumho but will perform much better. Then I installed a BF Goodrich g-force tire 205 55/15. Got a special deal from a local tire dealer who bought a container full of old stock. The tire was 5 years old. Installed on my rim with beads to balance for $50.00. It was a good tire as well and was still on my ST when I traded it off.

It appears that the Yokohama S Drive tire is being phased out and being replaced by

    Hi Deanna,

look closely at your tire it looks to me like you are over inflated. You picture shows you are closer to your block on the center of the tire than on the outside.

    Hi Joe,

I'll drop the psi to 24.

Also repost a picture of the General @ new PSI, when I get the time( I'm still in the work force full time).
