2019 Yamaha Reverse Trike
Well I guess one of the big 4 are about to make a foray into the reverse Trike market. This article is from the upcoming issue of Rider magazine. It sure is ugly, but who knows what’s next.https://ridermagazine.com/2018/05/28...t-ride-review/

I don't think of this as a trike as we have gotten used to, but a motorcycle with two front wheels. Quite a different front suspension compared to a normal bike with forks. Although the new Goldwing's front suspension has the basic forks.

Different critter....
Have been seeing alot about it but to me it falls in the Piaggio scooter catagory. Although the scooter has more body panels it does not have the power and handling of the Yamaha....

INMO If it cannot stand straight up on it's own without support it is not a "trike!"

So many think the Niken is a trike.
The front wheels are 16" apart. This makes it a motorcycle in most countries. Just as the Piaggio is a scooter, not a trike. It is no more in the scooter category than a Spyder is in an adventure bike category.
It has three wheels but not for feet up parking. It requires use of it's kickstand when parked.
It is designed as a performance motorcycle, not a geezer ride.
Reading the several road tests will give an understanding of what is all about. Before you form an opinion on what you think it is, get some knowledge about it. The Rider article does not call it a reverse trike.
It is not competition for a Spyder, it is a completely different concept.
And it will likely be priced well under twenty thousand.

Ya know,
The same thing was said about the V-Max when it came out in 1985. It did hang around for a few decades. The V-boost system made up for the looks. But as you say---- beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
What is it Yamaha and fake scoops????

Not for me, however........
As ugly and impractical as this thing appears to be, it could become the first nail in CAN AM's coffin.

Former Spyder owner here - sold my Spyder after 15K miles and was waiting for a leaning reverse trike. I got tired of leaning the bike the wrong way, looking forward to slicing Apexes with huge confidence from dual fronts. My dream machine right here!
That said, I will miss the best character engine on the planet (imo) the Spyder V-Twin with a Yoshimura exhaust. And they FINALLY ditched the belt drive.
And any Spyder owner should be cautious calling a Niken ugly. Pretty much any Spyder except the RSS looks like a hot rod mobility scooter lol.

Great to see some diversity coming into the motorcycle scene especially in times of falling sales.A category on it's own really, too different to Spyder/Ryker to steal sales I think yet similar enough to generate more interest either way.
