Default First New rear tire - now seems Twitchy in turns

I just got my first new rear tire on my 2015 RT. We always ride 2 up.

20 lbs tire pressure in original front tires with good tread, 30 lbs in the new Kenda rear tire.

The laser alignment was checked and said to be "OK"

Rode fine before original rear tire was replace, we have Elka Shocks and a BajaRon Swaybar.

seems to be "Riding the hump"

NOTE: the drive belt is running differently on the rear sprocket.

I'm dropping the rear tire pressure to 26 on the next ride.

The rear tire had 8000 miles and the center was "FLAT", had less grip in turns that last few miles.

Need HELP!!!!! Comments please!!! before returning to the dealer.

im no tire expert by any means but I have learned that you should keep your rear tire press (even riding 2-up) to around 24-26 lbs. some might indicate even lower pressure.

Not with a Kenda rear tire! I would never go back to using a Kenda tire on our Spyder after using a Yokohama tire.

First off, 20 PSI in the front tires may be a contributing factor to the twichiness that you're feeling. I tried 20 PSI on ours and it made a noticeable difference (not for the better) on ours. I settled on 17-18 PSI on the front tires and like it. CanAm recommends 15 +/- 2 PSI on our 2013. When we had the HORRIBLE Kenda on the rear, I always ran 30 PSI in it. I tried running 26 PSI in it to keep the center from wearing out before the rest of it. That was a big mistake; it really made it feel like riding on a half flat tire.

Then I put a Yokohama tire on the rear and had it Squared Away two days later. We ride two up 98% of the time and have settled on 18-19 PSI in it and it's been great. With a Kenda tire, I would not run less than 30 PSI.

I would strongly suggest that you check the recommended pressure for your front tires and try it. That may cure your handling problem.

One other thing. You haven't got into the habit of looking in front of you as you ride in a curve instead of looking through it, have you? I caught myself doing that this spring and it really effects the handling in a curve.

If the belt is not within the specs stated in the owner's manual, I would take it back to the dealer for adjustment. I would think that that would change the alignment and then change the way it handles.

Also check the pressure in the rear air bag. That maybe to low. You should see no less than 50# in it.

If the person that changed the tire did anything to the axle adjustment bolts, there is a good chance it's out of alignment. As for tire pressure, I've run 18 in the front, 28 in the rear, with no problems, 17,000 miles on my first Kenda.

I have a 2014 RTS-SE6 the original tire( Kenda) was changed @ 5,824 miles on 6/20/2015 it also was "Flat" in the center, unsafe to drive at the time.

Installed General Altimax RT 43( Size: 215/60 R15) on the rear on 6/20/2015 and the tire pressure is 26 PSI, ( the has 22,300 miles ) the General Altimax rear tire has 16,476 miles on it. There is a lot of tread left.

The spyder handles great, no issues with the General Altimax RT43 tire on the rear.

I am running Continental Contiprocontact on the front @ 19 PSI (Size: 165/60 R15).

I personally like Kenda's and run 20# front and 30# rear with no problems. (two Spyders total 30,000 miles). A lot of tire wear/problems stem from the drivers and not the tire. How often do you check tires, are you looking at the wear bars and not the water bars, is every start a "Jack Rabbit Start" etc.etc.

Let the Rants begin! Whoever invented the tire had no idea how many opinions there are out their that vary 180* and most of them have no idea what they are talking about. Some one makes a strong opinion and the "Herd" jumps in with a vast following. Henry said "a little common sense will go a long way". Simple isn't it. Or is it?

Agree on checking the air bag pressure. 50# seems to be our sweet spot.

I run 18 # in the front on the Kendas. 26# in the rear (also Kenda). This seems to help with the "ballooning" that happens and causes the rear tread to deteriorate in the center before the edges go bad.

I find that the higher pressures in the Kenda give a seemingly harsher ride.

It "appears" I am getting a better wear pattern on the Kenda.

Pressure in Kenda tires should be as per the user's manual. Lower tire pressures will result in more 'twitchiness' as the tire sidewall will have more flex. So, if you are experiencing 'twitchiness' at 30#, it's not your rear tire that's causing it, I don't think.

I have no idea what you mean by 'riding the hump'

How is the drive belt running differently on the rear sprocket? What does that mean?

Impossible to tell really what you are experiencing, much less what may be causing it, since the only thing that changed is going to a new but identical rear tire that has more tread on it than the previous rear tire.

    More info is needed. Thanks.

My wife has a 2013 RTS and was in need of tires all around. She went to the dealer and got a new Kenda for the rear but reported that at highway speed the spyder felt a little twitchy. A few days later I put on new Forenza's on the front and took it out for a test ride and seems like the twitchy is still there. The front pressure is at 18 and the Kenda rear is 26-27. Any suggestions or ideas. Each time I take it for a test run I have a 1.5 mile stretch of gravel before pavement so it's not just a quick test run. Rich
